By Chris Anscombe Evaluation Question 3

Our target audience Our target audience are teenagers aged between years. The age of our target audience is young because our characters our young, this would attract a younger audience. We our target audience are people who enjoy social realism films such as Million dollar baby and also The Fighter. We wanted to attract a audience who were also interested in action due to the boxing. A big part of our target audience was trying to attract a larger female audience, that’s why we chose a female character to play the main role.

Method of getting feedback
We decided to get our audience feedback from showing a group of media students aged between our final cut of our trailer without telling them about the narrative and characters. We then handed out a questionnaire to the students a mix of open and closed questions. We also showed friends and family the trailer and asked what they thought of the trailer.

Questions Our questionnaire consisted of six questions which were: what genre is the film? What is the narrative of the film? Who would you say the target audience of this film is? Would you say this should be a mainstream film or a indie film? What actors would you choose to star in this film? Name three things you liked and three things you didn’t like about the trailer? We hoped from these questions we could find out a lot of key information about what the audience took from our film. We felt that having open questions would help us to get more detailed information that we could evaluate and get better opinions from.

Feedback From our feedback from the questionnaires we found that most people thought the genre of the film is Social realism, we are glad that people thought this and we felt we achieved showing what genre our trailer was. Although we had a few people who thought the genre was Action but we didn’t mind that because there is action in the film and the trailer could be misleading with the amount of boxing shown in it. Another question that we asked was ‘what is the narrative of the film?’ answers varied from ‘A girl looses someone in her family and to cope with what happened she takes up boxing and trains for a competition’. This is exactly what we wanted to hear from the audience, I feel we achieved this showing the narrative in our trailer as a majority of the audience knew what the narrative was. We didn’t have the same result from everyone, we got some answers such as ‘The narrative wasn’t clear as to why she started boxing but I knew she lost someone close to her.’

Feedback When we asked the focus group what they thought the target audience for our trailer was we found there to be two categories of ages. Most people predicted the target audience age was years old which was what we aimed for, but some also thought which is close to what we aimed for. After we saw the results for this question we asked why they thought the target audience age was because they presumed the film could be too violent for younger ages. People also said that the target audience is people who enjoy action film and social realism films. As a group we wanted our film to be mainstream and have big stars in which would attract a big audience especially the actress who would play the main character as we wanted to have a large female audience. When the focus group looked at our trailer they all said that the film should be mainstream. They also said some actors they would consider to be in the film are Megan Fox as they related her to films with action in.

Feedback Our final question is name three good points and bad points about the trailer? we had a lot of different answers back from the focus group, that’s why we chose to have open questions so that we get feedback that we cant predict. We had a lot of different replies to the three good points in our trailer, a few were: ‘The storyline was good, it was shown that not to much was given away but you could understand what was happening’, ‘I would go and see this in the cinema’ and ‘This is a unique idea for a film’. Our group we really happy with the feedback that people said and we didn’t expect some of the answers we got. The three bad points were: ‘The acting wasn’t very good’, ‘The music was strange and didn’t suit the trailer very well’. We didn’t mind the comment about the music as we agreed with it also because our original track was lost and would have suited the piece better.

What We Used This is the questionnaire we used for our research, we big boxes so that people had the chance to write a lot and had to the chance to write more than a one worded answer.
