 Is this a remedial course?  How long is the course? How many hours a week do I have to study on the course?  Who is the teacher on the course?  What am I going to learn/do on this course?  How will I be assessed?  Why should I do this course?  How do I log on to the course on Moodle? Summary

 No, this is not a remedial course.  Rather, this is a course designed to help you get in shape for the A grades you deserve by the end of the year.  It was put together to boost your overall performance on the A levels you have chosen. Is this a remedial course?

 The course is 30 weeks long (two terms).  It consists of two sessions a week: one taught session (1 hour) and one independent learning session on Moodle (1 hour). Course dates and times

 Minerva (Mina)  Credentials: 1.Experience in teaching study skills at Warwick University 2.Experience in teaching and supervising English for Academic Purposes at Birmingham University 3.Experience in teaching and supervising essay writing and research skills on the Extended Learning Project with 98% success rate 4.Personal academic experience as a BA and MA student  You can contact me at any time by at Who is the teacher on the course?

What am I going to learn on this course?

 Discuss, analyse and evaluate complex A level assessment tasks in different disciplines;  Engage with written sources of information and incorporate them in your writing (paraphrase, summary, quote, reference);  Critically analyse the reliability and relevance of various sources of information;  Build and evaluate valid arguments, thesis statements and essays;  Develop sophisticated academic vocabulary and syntax to describe, classify and evaluate research in various disciplines;  Self-evaluate your strengths and weaknesses in academic reading and writing skills… What am I going to do on this course?

 You will be assessed through a variety of methods both in the classroom and on Moodle: quizzes, observation, questions and answers, written work, self-evaluation, peer-evaluation.  The written work will not be long essays, but rather short, under 500 words pieces of writing on a variety of topics, connected to the A level courses you are doing. How will I be assessed?

 It’s a great chance to boost my overall A level marks.  It will offer a chance to practise academic study skills which are essential at university or in an office job.  It will not take away the time I need to dedicate to my A level preparation.  I don’t have to do an exam at the end of the course.  It will help with my university applications as I can show I am committed to academic work. Why should I do this course?

 Go to All courses  Go to English  Go to ASW  Enrol in the group you belong (e.g. group 2) How do I log on to the course on Moodle?
