Case application: Insulation and glazing, The Netherlands Harry Vreuls, NL Agency Workshop: Harmonization in Energy Savings Calculation: How To Fit International Experiences With Korean Practice, Now And In The Near Future Seoul, 21 April 2011 IEA-DSM TASK XXI: Standardisation of Energy Savings Calculations

TASK XXI: Standardisation of Energy Savings Calculations Outline Introduction Covenant “More with less” Standards, energy index, energy label Baseline issues Normalisation Example Summary

TASK XXI: Standardisation of Energy Savings Calculations Introduction Co-operation between organizations Long term agreements (with industries) Local climate change and energy policies Building regulation Subsidizing renewable energy Sustainable building support schemes

TASK XXI: Standardisation of Energy Savings Calculations More With Less A covenant started in 2009 between –the Government –the energy companies –the construction sector –the installation sector. Target: in 2020 existing buildings are 20 to 30% more energy efficient then in 1990

TASK XXI: Standardisation of Energy Savings Calculations Standard related to buildings Energy savings for existing buildings are generally calculated based on an national standard ISSO 82 - Energy Performance Advise – Dwellings This standard also include building labels (G-A) in line with the European EPBD

TASK XXI: Standardisation of Energy Savings Calculations Energy Index Q tot = total energy use; consists of several components: energy usage for space heating, domestic hot water, pumps en ventilation, lighting minus energy supply via solar panels or CHP), Mostly the EI is specified for a certain building, it translates in an energy label (A / G) to be able to compare different types of buildings

TASK XXI: Standardisation of Energy Savings Calculations Energy demand for space heating Calculated based on: The gross space heating demand of the building; this is –the total heat loss due to both transmission and ventilation –minus the heat gains (consisting of solar irradiance and internal heat gains) minus the heat gains from a sun room The efficiency of the used space heater

TASK XXI: Standardisation of Energy Savings Calculations Heat losses due to transmission H transmission is a summation of the heat transfer coefficients multiplied with the corresponding construction areas and a weighting factor, the latter depending on the adjacent area (e.g. outside, sun room, ground)

TASK XXI: Standardisation of Energy Savings Calculations Baseline issues The baseline of a separate dwelling is the energy usage per year corresponding with the energy label before This is a "before situation" with a static baseline The baseline is different for each type of dwelling related to the way the dwelling was built and techniques used.

TASK XXI: Standardisation of Energy Savings Calculations Normalisation Average T outside = 5.64°C during heating season (212 days; October - April) T inside = 18°C Specified number of residents 1,4 - 3,2 (depending on used floor area of dwelling) Ventilation based on Dutch regulations Internal heat production 6 W/m 2 Annual electricity use lighting: 6 kWh/m 2 Annual energy demand for domestic hot water based on number of residents, type of appliance for domestic hot water supply, type of water users (showers, baths etc).
