Energy Ecodesign and Energy Labelling of Heaters

Energy Ecodesign and labelling regulations under Directives 2009/129/EC and 2010/30/EU are important instruments for achieving the objective of 20% energy savings by 2020. Article 16 of Directive 2009/129/EC defines heating and water heating equipment as priority. In synergy with the national actions taken under the EPBD, the proposed regulations will lead to annual energy savings in the EU of about 56 Mtoe in 2020. This corresponds to an annual reduction of 135 million tons of CO 2 emissions and savings for consumers of about € 30 billion in 2020. Overview of Energy Efficiency Policies

Energy Background Process started in 2005, involving Member States, industry and consumer and environmental NGOs Energy Labelling adopted by collegue of Commissioners 18 February 2013. 13 March 2013. Vote on the Regulatory Committee on Ecodesign measures

Energy Scope of proposed Regulations Heaters are boilers, microCHP, heat pumps. Heaters are space heaters or combination (space and water) heaters - Ecodesign requirements, product label by manufacturer, EU standards, product is placed on the market Heater packages are heaters combined with solar devices and temperature control - Package label by installer, package fiche, products in the package are placed on the market Water heaters are conventional, heat pump or solar water heaters and hot water storage tanks - Ecodesign requirements, product label by manufacturer, EU standards, product is placed on the market Water heater packages are water heaters combined with solar devices - Package label by installer, package fiche, products in the package are placed on the market

Energy Scope of Ecodesign (ED) of heater and water heater Included are heaters with a rated heat output ≤ 400 kW packages of heater ≤ 400 kW temperature control and solar device water heaters with a rated heat output ≤ 400 kW hot water storage tanks with a storage volume ≤ 2 000 litres packages of water heater ≤ 400 kW and solar device Exempted are predominant biogas/bioliquid heaters (review), solid fuel heaters (lot 15), heaters making coffee/tea/soup (lot 25), air heaters (lot 21) Scope of Energy Labelling (EL) of heater and water heater Included are heaters with a rated heat output ≤ 70 kW packages of heater ≤ 70 kW, temperature control and solar device water heaters with a rated heat output ≤ 70 kW hot water storage tanks with a storage volume ≤ 500 litres packages of water heater ≤ 70 kW and solar device Exempted are predominant biogas/bioliquid heaters (review), solid fuel heaters (lot 15), heaters making coffee/tea/soup (lot 25), air heaters (lot 21)

Energy Ecodesign of heaters and water heaters The minimum energy efficiency requirements ant noise requirements will come into force on the 26 September 2015. The maximum NOx emission requirements will come into force on the 26 September 2018.

Energy Energy labelling of heaters and water heaters Introduction of a new energy label for heaters and water heaters, based on a single energy efficiency scale for heaters using electricity, fossil fuels and renewable energy sources (a world "first"). This creates a level playing field between heater technologies and provides easily understandable information for consumers. Introduction of a new dealer label for packages of all types of heaters and water heaters combined with solar devices (a world "first") The new A ++ -G scale includes the best boilers and water heaters in class A. The classes A + -A ++ can be reached by combining boilers and water heaters with cogeneration, heat pumps and solar devices. Subject to review in 2018, class A +++ is proposed to come into force in 2019.

Energy Label examples Product label for heaters Package label for packages of heater, temperature control and solar device
