Grammar Spot…p 23 Past simple tense: The past simple is used to refer to actions which happened in the past.. Examples : She visited her grandmother last week. (visit) They bought a nice coat yesterday. (buy) She was in Paris in 2000.( be) We have two kinds of verbs: (regular and irregular verbs) 1-Regular verbs—for example: (cleaned/played/walked/climbed) Regular past tenses are formed by adding-ed or-d to the verb.. If the verb ends in a consonant+ y change the y to “ied” for example: study +ed= studied . We double the final consonant when the verb ends in consonant proceeded by a vowel ,for example: stop +ed =stopped. 2-Irregular verbs----(went/spoke /was/bought…..)

Grammar Spot… Negative form: We form the negative by using did not----didn’t+ v infinitive) They didn’t come early. Rana didn’t watch TV yesterday... Questions: We form questions by using did + s + v (infinitive) Did you come early yesterday? ( yes/no question ) Short answer: Yes, I did. / No, I didn’t What did you buy yesterday?( W h Q) When did she leave?

Grammar Spot The past continuous tense: This tense is used to say that somebody was in the middle of doing something at a certain time. The action or situation had already started before this but had not finished. Examples: (past cont) (simple past) Sara was studying when her mother came. While we were walking in the shop ,we saw our teacher. Negative-was not /were not +v + ing Heba wasn’t working. Questions Was the student reading when her mother came ? ( yes/no question) Yes, she was./ No, she wasn’t What were you writing? (W h question )
