People & Work To create an environment where workers are performing at their best, three things are vital 1.Job design 2.The understanding of the motivating theories 3.The implementation of the work practices that develop job satisfaction

Employee expectations These are usually centre on; Fair treatment by the employer Steady employment Good conditions (pay & leave) Positive working environment Safe workplace

Job Satisfaction This can be affected by the expectations the individual brings to the job & also by such factors as; The nature of the work The remuneration (pay) for the work The way the work is supervised The quality relationships with fellow workers/colleagues Existence of paths for career development & advancement Balance between work & non-work life

Motivation This is what drives the individual member of staff to put effort into their job. Because it involves personality factors & personal circumstances (stage of life) the degree of a person’s motivation can be highly individual.
