Giving feedback Feedback is a way to reinforce appropriate behaviour, standards of practice or bring about individual change. It facilitates self-reflection and open dialogue between employees and management, and supports understanding and acknowledgement of strengths and weaknesses. When feedback is used effectively, the outcomes are: realistic career plans for the individual benefits for the organisation from understanding each staff member’s aspirations and potential. Self-reflection Learning more about the way in which you communicate will enhance your management skills. Using recognised managerial theories when reflecting upon your practice will give you the evidence required to demonstrate your competence. You can also use the process of reflecting upon the way you support and enable others to develop your own knowledge and skills. A coach is not necessarily an expert in the field of influence of the person. Rather, they will work with the person to identify and reach significant targets and goals.
