PLEASE NOTE: We only want VolunTeens who WANT to be here! Please feel free to leave now or to come to me afterward if your parents MADE you come to this training.

General Requirements Entering at least 7 th grade Sign up for TTSRC –It is NOT another assignment! (You can read your school assignment &/or for fun.) Work at least 16 hours –Different levels/titles

Dress Code Dress comfortably, but make sure you’re covered up enough to bend & stretch –NO bellies! –NO butt cheeks! –NO butt cracks! –NO cleavage! (It can get REALLY cold in here, so bring a sweater or a hoodie!)

VolunTeen Responsibilities Help at the SRC Headquarters (HQ) Help at the SRC events Help as a “Page” in Children’s Room

SVT HQ Helpers What do you do? –Sign Kids up for SRC –Check kids in when they complete levels Award prizes and raffle tickets –You may be asked to help with “data entry” if it’s slow in the HQ

SVT Event Helpers What do you do? –Help set up –Help out during program –Help clean up PLEASE do not sign up for these jobs unless you plan to actually HELP!

SVT Pages What do you do? –Put away Children’s Room materials –“Shelf read” in Children’s Room If you are interested in being a Page, get an application/quiz from Chrissie after we tour the Children’s Room!

PLEASE: DON’T abandon the SRC Headquarters –Let us know if you need to go to the bathroom, get a drink, etc. DON’T bring kids to babysit or hang out with friends (while you’re volunteering) DON’T horseplay, throw stuff, &/or shout

PLEASE: DON’T make extra “samples” –It wastes the supplies and costs us money! DON’T steal and/or damage SRC prizes –It’s not fair to the kids who read to earn them! DON’T vandalize library property –Ask for paper and crayons if you want to draw!

When can you sign up for this week?

Google Calendar Slots that have been filled will include the name (first name and last initial) of the VolunTeen who is working that shift. If there is not a VolunTeen’s name before the description of the job, the slot should be available for you to sign up.

Scheduling Shifts How to Sign Up for Shifts –Figure out which shift(s) you would like –Check with your parent/guardian/ride! –Call or stop by our desk We will confirm that a slot is available and put you into the calendar

Scheduling Shifts Schedule shifts up to 2 weeks in advance (a new week worth of shifts opens up each Monday at 9am) No more than 2 shifts a day! This is YOUR JOB! –Parents cannot sign up/call in for you (except in an emergency) –Use this to get ready for a “real” (paid) job!

Summer Reading Challenge There are THREE different SRCs! Kids’ SRC –For babies, toddlers, preschoolers, & grades K-5 Tween & Teen SRC (TTSRC) –For grades 6-12 Adult SRC –For everyone else!

Now, you’ll register for the TTSRC so you know what to expect when you help with registration!

SRC Check-In Prizes –ONE PRIZE PER LEVEL!!! –Kids CAN check in for multiple levels at one time, as long as they aren’t jumping ahead in the SRC levels There will be a sign with dates for the levels Example – if they went away on vacation

Raffle Tickets End of Summer/Grand Prize Raffles* –One ticket for completing the SRC –One ticket for each bonus level *This means there will actually be a maximum of 5 raffle tickets per kid in the Kids’ SRC end of summer/grand prize raffles!

Tour of Children’s Room We are going to head down and see the SRC Headquarters. Turn in your applications and LEAVE EVERYTHING ELSE HERE! We will return to this room at the end of the tour.

VolunTeen Page Applications Anyone who wants to be an SVT Page may take the quiz now. You will have 5-10 minutes to complete the quiz on the application. Read the directions carefully and take your time.
