Welcome !! Mr. Ward 5 th Grade Please open the folder on your child’s desk and read the letter your child has written. Please write them back. Please sign and date the “Fifth Grade Student…Contract” sheet.

General Overview Each student has a unique #. MUST return the text with their number. Responsible for care of all books taken from the classroom Classroom Website GENESIS system All homework has purpose = 5 -10% of final grade Any assignment that comes in after 2 weeks of being assigned will not be accepted. Your child will receive a Missing Work Report every Friday Weekly Assignment Log – Filled out daily Graded Work Folder – Home on Tuesday’s / Please sign All final grades are rounded up Math, SS, Science, Reading, Spelling, Writing, Art, & Technology

Everyday Math program. Math Boxes nightly –B = Beginning skill – spend 5-10 min –D = Developing skill – ½ credit for effort –S = “No excuse” – credit for right answer Study Links – Both Homework & Quizzes Family Letter for each unit Unit Review sheets = 2 days before every test SRB Book is a necessary part of program Tests – 90%, HW – 5%, Quizzes – 5% IXL Math Online practice – Thank you to our PTF

Newspaper based program We are going over 500+ years of history Need to do the reading Listen and engage during readings, discussions, videos, etc… Group projects coupled with Technology Given a test review sheet 1 week prior to test –May use all HW, chapter reviews, timelines with every test Test = 50% ; Projects/Presentations = 25% ; Chapter reviews = 15%; Lesson Specific HW = 10%;

4 units –Space –Human Body/Scientific Process Students will be expected to participate in Science Fair –Matter/Force/Motion Provided a review sheet 1 week before each test may use all homework & chapter reviews with every test Unit Tests – 45% Presentations/Projects – 20% In-class Labs – 15% Chapter Reviews – 15% Homework – 5%

The folder is yours to keep. You should have : Family Letter for Math Unit 1 A copy of the Core Word sheet, Cloze, Spectrum, & Book Report form. You should also have your IXL Math sheet to log onto the system. You may also have your login information for MUSD Parent Connection An information sheet for you to keep throughout the school year.
