ENGLISH REQUIRED ENGLISH COURSES: (4) credits Look in the course catalog for all of the course offerings. Most seniors will need (1) credit of English to graduate.

MATHEMATICS Be sure to check the prerequisites!!!! Talk with your math teacher is you are unsure of what class to take. All students must pass 3 years of math to graduate If you are attending college or technical college, check the admission requirements for math. Most universities require (3) years of higher level math for admissions (Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II and higher, some may require more depending on your major.

SCIENCE Must pass a minimum of 3 credits to graduate from MHS Agriculture classes cross walking for Science credit, please check the course catalog Most universities require 3 credits for admission, check their requirements!

SOCIAL STUDIES Minimum of 3 credits are required to graduate from MHS Modern US History1 credit World History1 credit Civics1 credit Must pass the Civics Exam in order to graduate.

Physical Education Substitute Credit Option (policy – ) Students take (3) courses to earn 1 ½ credits of PE to meet graduation requirements. High School students may substitute participation in athletic co-curricular activities for one-half (1/2) credit of the 1 ½ credits PE required for graduation. Students who substitute athletic co-curricular participation must complete an additional ½ elective credit of English, math, social studies, science or health education course that is not otherwise required for graduation. Other requirements will need to be met

FINANCIAL LITERACY Financial Literacy is a graduation requirement ½ credit of Personal Financial Management Can be taken your junior or senior year

COURSE RETAKE AND GRADE REPLACEMENT Students may want to retake a course to learn at a deeper level to prepare for future coursework, improve one’s gpa for college admission, increase chances on acquiring a scholarship or simply to acquire the maximum gpa one can earn. The decision to retake a course is an important decision and requires a parent meeting with school personnel prior to the second enrollment. Any course to be retaken must be done so within the next school year. All courses taken will be recorded on the student transcript. The letter “R” will replace the lower grade and have no value in calculating one’s gpa or class rank.

WAYS TO EARN COLLEGE CREDIT WHILE YOU ARE IN HIGH SCHOOL

ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSES Prerequisite: Prior approval of principal AP courses are taught in high school for high school credit. Upon completion of the course, students may choose to take the Advanced Placement test, which is given in the spring of each school year. The cost of each test is the student’s responsibility. The amount of college credits earned is dependent upon the individual college or university

TRANSCRIPTED CREDIT (TC) Moraine Park Technical College courses taught at MPTC using the technical college curriculum and books. MHS teachers or MPTC instructor will teach the course. Earn both high school and technical college credit. Credits are transferable within the Technical College System. If a student enrolls at MPTC, they will not have to retake the MPTC course they received high school credit for. Universities may or may not accept the credits, check on Transfer Agreement System (TIS) See all transcripted course offerings on page 4 of the MHS course catalog. Which also includes UW Oshkosh and Project Lead the Way ( PLTW ) courses.

YOUTH OPTIONS Opportunity for 11 th and 12 th graders to earn college credit while in high school as long as the school doesn’t offer a comparable course. Students interested in this program must apply by March 1 st for the fall courses and October 1 st for the spring courses. Students can take no more than 18 credits. Courses must get BOE approval. Successful completion of course will earn ¼ credit for every 1 credit of college work. Must submit form PI-700A and submit by the deadline.

Cooperative Academic Partnership Program (CAPP) CAPP at the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh provides academically able high school students to earn college credits while in high school. Must meet certain requirements and pay a fee for tuition (see course catalog) It’s available for all juniors and seniors to take for high school credit. Introduction to Business college credits

UW SYSTEM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS All UW System Schools require the minimum of 17 high school credits: 4 credits of English 3 credits of Math 3 credits of Social Studies 3 credit of Natural Science 4 credits of Electives (UW-Madison requires a minimum of 2 years of a single foreign language) (UW-Platteville, UW-Milwaukee and UW-Parkside required 2 years of a foreign language to graduate from the university)

REQUESTS TO GRADUATE EARLY There is an application process to graduate early. You need to have a plan and permission from your parents. See Mrs. Paszek for the application and to review your transcript if this is your plan. All requests need to be approved by the Board of Education. This process is completed in the fall.
