Graduation Requirements: Transcript Check

English Students will be placed in either: English 10 or Honors English 10

Math Students will placed in either: Geometry 0r Honors Geometry Sophomore students may also have the option to take Algebra II, in addition to Geometry. See your counselor during registration to determine if this is an option.

Science If a student took Physical Science 9 th grade year, he/she needs to sign up for: Biology I or Honors Biology I If a student took Biology I 9 th grade year, he/she needs to sign up for: Chemistry I or Honors Chemistry I OR Physics I or Honors Physics I Students must have 3 science classes to graduate. Biology I, Chemistry/Physics, 1 additional lab science class.

Social Studies Students will need to sign up for either: U.S. Government (9 weeks course) or AP Government/AP Economics

Wellness/P.E. Students will need to sign up for: Lifetime Wellness (if not completed in 9 th grade) PE Individual Sports (9 weeks course) This requirement may be met by participating in certain activities such as marching band, team sports, or flag and rifle... See your counselor during registration for additional information.

JROTC: Satisfying Other Course Requirements JROTC may fulfill certain graduation requirements. Please see your school counselor during registration for additional information.

World Language Students may take either: French, Spanish, German or Latin Sophomores may sign up for world language courses. There is no guarantee that a 10 th graders will have world language on his/her schedule, if requested. It is recommended that students take both the first and second levels in the same school year, if possible.

Fine Art During high school, students are required to complete 1 Fine Art credit. Fine Art areas include: Visual Arts Theatre Arts Chorus Band

Programs of Study You will need at least 3 credits in a Program of Study. Program of Study areas include: CTE Fine Arts Academic Areas Programs of Study can be found in the JCHS Curriculum Guide

Advanced Placement (AP) Classes The Advanced Placement (AP) Program consists of college-level courses and exams for high school students. AP courses make it possible for academically talented students to upgrade the quality and increase the challenge of their studies, both in high school and college. AP enables students to receive college credit in particular subject areas upon satisfactory performance on the AP examination. AP courses are offered contingent upon student enrollment requests. Students have an opportunity to earn a GPA that exceeds 4.0 and stand out in the college/scholarship application process. Students who enroll in AP courses at JCHS are required to take the AP exam at the end of the year.

AP Parent Night Students and Parents interested in learning more about the AP Program at JCHS are encouraged to attend AP Night at the Patriot Academy on Tuesday, March 15 th, 5:30-6:30

Things to Keep in Mind… Pre-Requisites Many classes have a pre-requisite that must be met before you can enroll in the course. Please consult the Curriculum Guide to learn about any course requirements. Auditions/Applications Courses include: Leadership Patriot Singers Women’s Chorus Flag & Rifle Yearbook Athletics Certain Sports Training classes are offered specifically to JCHS athletic team participants. Students must receive a coach’s approval when enrolling in these courses.

Alternate Courses When completing the “Class Registration Form” in the back of the JCHS Curriculum Guide: You MUST list 4 alternate courses! These courses WILL be used if a requested course is full. Be sure that the courses chosen as alternates are courses you want to take!!

IMPORTANT REMINDER!!! The classes you select during registration are important! Make sure you are selecting classes you are POSITIVE you want. Speak with your counselor to ensure you are selecting classes you will be the most successful in!

*Schedule Changes* Students and parents are advised to select courses with great care. Requests for schedule changes will be considered if they meet one of the following criteria: Student has previously taken and passed the course Student failed a course and needs to repeat it Student does not meet the recommended prerequisite criteria Student is a senior who needs a course to meet graduation requirements Student’s sequence of courses is out of order
