INITIAL IDEAS

TOPIC ISSUE -This issue highlighted within a current affairs programme is highly important as the issue highlighted should appeal to your target audience. -An Issue I am thinking about covering is Police corruption within the UK as there is currently a big campaign for reducing corruption within the Police force. b016n2s0

TOPIC ISSUE Poverty within the UK An Idea I have considered is Poverty within the UK as this issue concerns the whole UK as a whole catering to a wide range of different demographics. watch?v=PajiEd5ZPXs

TOPIC ISSUE Swansea Heroin Epidemic Another Issue I have considered highlighting is the huge Heroin problem within Swansea this will appeal to wide range of different demographics but primarily the working class people of Swansea: VICE Panorama h?v=aIbpt1aDFqM

AUDIENCE -It is important to take into consideration demographics when considering your target audience. This include age, class, occupation, nationality, ethnicity & regional identity. -Taking this into consideration when creating your programme creating a current affairs programme will allow you to effectively target your audience catering specifically for specific demographics.

AUDIENCE My target audience will be Students ages 16-21

BUDGET -Budget is highly important when creating a current affairs programme as you will have to have the resources available in order to effectively create your programme. -This includes hiring the camera crew and the presenter etc.

COMPETITION -You will have to consider the current competition when creating your current affairs programme as a range of other competitors may be highlighting the same issue therefore you would have to use a different idea or do the same idea but do it much better than your competitors. -It is important to conduct research into what your competitors are doing in order to compete effectively

COMPETITION -Examples of competition in the current affairs market would be Channel 4 Dispatches, BBC Panorama, ITV Exposure & VICE -Link to BBC Panorama:

MEDIA PREFERENCES Target Audiences Media preferences which can include: -Newspapers - Magazines -Television Programmes -Websites they visit

FINAL IDEA My final idea is Police Corruption I have chosen to highlight the issue of Police corruption within the UK as the issue appeals to a wide range of people within the UK especially those from the working class background.

PRIMARY RESEARCH RESULTS

AUDIENCE PROFILING I chose to predominately question the male population as I believe they are more affected by police corruption than females. The majority of the male population may be interested Police corruption more so than females as the male population is typically more interested in corruption/violence more so than the female population Gender

AUDIENCE PROFILING I asked mostly as they are my chosen target audience however I attempted to ask the older community for their input aswell. Knowing the age range and the other factors including newspaper/television & preferred current affairs programmes shows they watch. I will be able to determine which current affairs issue they are most likely to watch. Age

AUDIENCE PROFILING Knowing the employment status of the target audience is beneficial as this is another factor adding to the demographics of the audience allowing me to cater to the majority of the employment sector e.g full time education mostly year old. Employment Status

AUDIENCE PROFILING Knowing which location my audience resides from will be greatly important as I can obtain a general knowledge of what current affairs programme they are most likely to watch, aswell as contributing the demographics which will allow me to determine which current affairs programme they are mostly likely to watch. Town of Residence

AUDIENCE PROFILING I asked the audience their preferred newspaper as each specific one focuses on highlighting specific social issues within the UK. Knowing what newspaper the audience mostly read I will be able to determine what social issue they would be mostly likely want to be highlighted. These results may reflect the the demographics of the audience as the towns of residence in which they reside are predominately working class towns e.g Epping/Harlow and this also may be a reflection on the age category Preferred Newspaper.

AUDIENCE PROFILING I asked the audience their preferred television programme as each channel highlights different social issues and with the knowledge of which programme they watch I will be able to determine what they would most likely want to watch. Preferred Television Programme

PROGRAMME INFORMATION/PROFILIN G I asked the audience what current affairs programme they mostly watch with this information I will be able to effectively determine which social issue I am to cover and how I would go about doing this as different current affairs programmes highlight social issues in a different manner. Preferred Current affairs Programme.

IMPORTANT CURRENT SOCIAL ISSUES In knowing what social issue is most important to the audience I will be now be able to choose which social issue I am most likely to cover and this would be Police corruption as it has the higher number of votes from the general public in comparison to other current social issues being highlighted in the Media. “People also gave statements of how they feel about the issue of police corruption” Social Issues

CURRENT SOCIAL ISSUES I asked the audience whether they have had any problems with the Police Force as this would influence my decision in creating a current affairs focusing on Police corruption however these results may reflect the age as most people aged did not have any problems with the police this may reflect the town residence they reside from. Problems with the Police Force

CONCLUSION In Conclusion from my results I have found that the majority of the general public from my target audience are predominately males agreeing that Highlighting Police corruption is a suitable television programme for a current affairs programme as the issue of Police corruption is highly prominent within the UK at this moment in time and should be highlighted further to the general Public.

PROPOSALS As a result of my findings I will be considering creating a current affairs programme highlighting the issue of police corruption as my target audience agrees that this issue is one that needs to be highlighted. If I were to attempt to target this audience the issue would need to be highlighted in “The Sun” newspaper and Channel 4 Dispatches as it the most popular among my target audience.
