Fun Formative Assessment… ONLINE EDITION What is formative assessment? Formative assessment is done as students learn to see if adjustments need to be made to instruction while summative assessment is done at the end (i.e. semester tests, EOC’s). This presentation available on Eduphoria and at tinyurl.com/funassessment

Gentlemen (and ladies)… start your cell phones  Online formative assessment can be a quick, easy, and fun way to assess students.  Most kids have a cell phone. For those that don’t, they can partner up with someone, or you can give them a chrome book, netbook, or iPad to use.  Some of the following methods allow you to export student scores for grading purposes. JESHOOTS. Iphone _1280. N.d. PixaBay. Web. 1 Mar

TEACHER SITE FOR CREATING ADMINISTERING: GETKAHOOT.COMGETKAHOOT.COM STUDENT SITE: KAHOOT.ITKAHOOT.IT Students can use on a browser on any device: kahoot.it Teacher will display quiz using computer & presentation station: GetKahoot.com Easy to learn and use. Colorful and musical. Teacher can download scores. Kids can use nicknames, and it blocks them from using a bad word. You can search their library for kahoots that have been set to “public”. Offers options such as shuffling the questions randomly or how many seconds to answer: Students can use any device so long as it has internet access & a browser or Kahoot app. Sample: Drawbacks: The students have to be able to see your screen to see the answers. Their device screen will only show colors corresponding to the answer choices.

Students use browser on any device: join.quizizz.com Teacher uses computer & presentation station: quizizz.com Easy to learn and use. Colorful and musical with cute avatars selected for each player. Generates competition though it's not on the big screen. Students take it individually You can search the library of existing games…great filler if you have time left at the end of a class. You can shuffle questions and answers to prevent cheating. You can choose from many other options such as music, cute memes displayed after each question answered, showing the leaderboard, timer, etc. You can generate reports so you can see where kids are weakest and record grades if desired. Sample: Drawbacks: Students play individually on their phone or device, so it may not be exciting. This may be good for rowdy classes though. Teacher Site for creating administering: quizizz.comquizizz.com Student site: join.quizizz.comjoin.quizizz.com

Students & teacher go to socrative.com and click on either student or teacher. There’s also an app available, but it’s not necessary.socrative.com Ready ready-made quizzes at The room number you will give your students will always be the same. Export reports that show how each student did (Be sure to tell them to use their real name). You can also generate reports to see how each question was answered. Quick Question – multiple choice, true/false, or short answer options Exit ticket – Ask students how well they understood the question or what they learned. Space Race – Students compete with each other individually or in groups. Up to 20 only! Students will see their color on the projector screen to see how they compare to others. No names show.

SUPERTEACHERTOOLS.NET STUDENTS USE SAME SITE AS THE TEACHER THIS SITE IS FREE JUST LIKE THE OTHERS! Choose from the following games: Jeopardy, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, & Speed Match.JeopardyWho Wants to Be a MillionaireSpeed Match You can search for a ready-made game or create your own. Teacher clicks on Make a New Game Now or Find a Game and gets a join code. Student enters the Join code and names his or her team. Takes some practice to get used to. Play around with it before you use it with kids! No reports. Play together for assessment or put the link to it on your webpage for review. Some are created by students and have errors in content, grammar, etc!

Create a crossword and give your students the link to it or have them create a crossword and send you the link. Example: Students can either show you their screen when done, take a screenshot (if you show them how), or print their certificate. They must hit submit. If you want you can print the crossword instead of giving it online. You can also search for crosswords to use, but try it yourself before you share the link since there may be typos. There are other games on this site such as hangman, word search, Sudoku

Create games or search for ready-made games Many options: Image Quiz, Matching Quiz, Type the Answer, & Multiple Choice Create a group for each class, start tournaments, and award badges. Students must join, and you must invite them for them to be part of your “group”. You can also decline or ban members. If you don’t want to create a group and hold tournaments, you can simply make a game public and post a link to it. You can add favorite games to your playlist if you login. Otherwise, bookmark links. Play together as a whole class (project) or post the link on your website for review. What’s a topic you teach that might have students label something?

Teacher goes to GoFormative.com & can add students individually/spreadsheet upload OR send students to goformative.com to enter quick code & login with their Google account.goformative.com Create a new assessment or upload a pdf or Word document. Students can sign in with their school Google account, too! Kids can respond with text, drawings, or images! and enter quick code in top box: AWGD

Quizalize.com  Students go to quiz.al and enter code..quiz.al You can add students or they can add themselves to your class. Then students take the quiz individually, so may not as exciting as Kahoot! Lots of quizzes in the marketplace which you can use as is or edit. Most free. Some not (usually around.99). Can’t export results for free but you can see how kids did on your screen and where they need help. Lots of different options such as playing sounds, allowing students to see the correct answer after they answer, allowing them to see a report. Also available: timer, opportunity to retry missed questions, random question order. Works in conjunction with hub.zzish.com to record results. Online Guide:

Good for vocabulary learning! Create your own set or choose one that’s already made. Create a class and give kids link to join or add them yourself. You can set it up so only students with a password can access it. You can’t see students’ results without a subscription and even then, it only shows in which areas students are struggling, not scores. Students can just study or quiz themselves in a variety of ways (flash cards, fill in the blank, spell the term, Scatter match game, Gravity game. There’s a new in-class game version! At least six students must join, and they are divided into groups of 3-4: Teacher Start Guide:

Answergarden.ch 1. Set up your Answer Garden. 2. Share your Answer Garden by embedding it, linking it, or sharing on a social network. 3. Share the results and discuss them especially if this is for brainstorming! Optional: Export to Wordle or Tagzedo to make a cool Word Cloud. How to keep it free of inappropriateness? Password protect it so you can remove entries. Consider selecting Moderator Mode. Teacher Quick Start Guide: To create an answer garden: What topics could you use these assessment/reinforcement tools for?
