3 Getting Started Please unlock your HP Stream and open Google Chrome. We will be using Google Chrome as our browser for the rest of our time together. To unlock the HP Stream, choose the user xxx and enter the password jude2015. You should now be ready to get started!

4 Survey Says... Let’s begin with a survey. I created this survey using Google Forms. After everyone has taken the survey, I will show you how to create a Google Form to use in your classroom. Please enter the following URL into your browser:

5 Your Google Account Every teacher in the building has their own school Google Account. Many teachers use those accounts to allow students to share work with them. Your username is the first letter of your first name followed by your last name, followed (ex: Your initial password may be one of the following: staff2016 OR staff12345

6 Your Google Account To sign in to your Google Account:
Open your web browser (today we will all use Google Chrome) Look for either of the following: or

7 Your Google Account Then...

8 Your Google Account You will then be prompted to enter your account information:

9 Your Google Account

10 Your Google Account Using Google Accounts also allow us as a staff to:
Create and share documents and folders, such as Faculty Meeting Minutes or handouts Create shared class lists Share articles for staff development Begin to create a paperless, digital classroom - students can type assignments in their student accounts and share them with you. You can see when the assignments were shared and can suggest edits and give comments directly on the assignments.

11 Google Forms Google Forms are a tool that every grade level can use.
All levels can use Google Forms for: Parent sign ups for class parties Parent surveys

12 Google Forms Kindergarten and Grade 1 may use them to:
Keep anecdotal evidence for parent communications If you use an iPad, you can walk and record students throughout the day

13 Google Forms Other Grades may: Create quizzes Create surveys
Gather student information, such as usernames and passwords for websites

14 Google Forms How to create a Form:
Sign in to your Google Account and open your Google Drive Choose “New” from the menu on the left side Select “More” from the list, and choose “Google Forms” (it’s purple) A new tab will open. Please click the X to close the message asking you to try new Google Forms.

16 Google Forms Deselect “Require xxx login to view this form.
This option is only necessary in extreme instances. I find it makes the form difficult for students to use. Give your Form a new title. This is done at the top where you see the words Untitled Form. Simply click on the words and create a title. This makes it easier for you to find it and/or search for it. Create a title for the form - click on Untitled Form in the form area and choose your title. Create your questions in the question area.

18 Google Forms Types of Questions Text Paragraph Text Multiple Choice
Checkboxes Choose From List Scale Grid Date Time

19 Google Forms Types of Questions Each question type has it’s purpose.
For quizzes, multiple choice, text, and paragraph text questions are best. For surveys, multiple choice, choose from list, and checkboxes work best. Date and Time questions allow you to keep track of when forms are used.

20 Google Forms What do I do with all the information? This is where add ons come in handy.

21 Add Ons and Extensions Add ons allow you to create additional documentation and sort information. Extensions allow you to use your Chrome browser more effectively.

22 Add Ons and Extensions Add ons:
Are used for specific programs, such as Google Docs and Google Sheets Allow the user to complete additional tasks with their work

23 Add Ons and Extensions Add ons for Google Docs:
The most useful one I use is Open Clipart. Since Google Docs does not have it’s own clipart function, like Microsoft Word, this add on is particularly useful.

24 Add Ons and Extensions Add ons for Google Sheets: rowCall
When used with information gathered through a Form, sorts data by specific parameters Save as Doc Allows you to create a Google Doc from spreadsheet information Good for teachers who collect anecdotal information through Forms - useful for conferences

25 Add Ons and Extensions Add ons for Google Sheets: Autocrat
Can create awards and personalized documents for students and/or parents Add Rows and Columns Flubaroo This add on helps to automatically grade your sheets if using them as a quiz (results from a Google Form quiz) Enter your sample answers, then follow the prompts to get your students’ scores.

26 Chrome Extensions Google Chrome extensions allow you to do some amazing and crazy things with your browser. To use an extension, you must sign in to your browser.

27 Chrome Extensions Once you are signed in to the Chrome browser, you will be able to add extensions. Some extensions that could be useful for most classes are...

28 Chrome Extensions goo.gl URL Shortener
Allows you to create a shorter URL for your students to use Simply click on the icon next to the address bar and select the option; you can use the shortened URL or copy and paste a QR code for students to scan

29 Chrome Extensions Crafty Text
Crafty Text allows you to display information in a larger format across the browser Good for displaying URLs or other important information

30 Chrome Extensions Cloud Tab
Cloud Tab is an easy way to organize frequently used browser tabs Great for keeping your favorite teaching sites accessible at a moment’s notice

31 Chrome Extensions How do I add an extension to my Google Chrome browser? Use the Chrome Web Store - You can enter the names of the extensions I have shown you this afternoon. Click “Add to Chrome” at the top of the pop-up, then click “Add to Chrome”.

32 Chrome Extensions Some extensions do require a login. You may use the address you used to sign in to your Chrome Browser. To sign out, you need to go to “Settings” by clicking on the 3 gray lines on the top right-hand side of the browser. Then, choose “Disconnect your Google Account”. This is good for when you are using a computer that students may also be able to access.

33 Thank You! Thank you all for your time and attention.
I hope everyone goes into the weekend having found at least ONE thing they could incorporate into their classroom. See you on Monday!
