Independence  In Year 4 we expect the children to develop their independence skills. This includes:  Putting their own belongings away in the mornings  Putting home/school contact books into the box/tray  Looking after jumpers – making sure they are in their trays & clearly labelled  Changing their own reading books  Choosing appropriate resources to support their learning, such as a number line or hundred square when adding and using various vocabulary/ displays around the classroom.  Writing in the Home/School contact book when they have read.

Changes from Year 3  Number of spellings and expectations  Government expectations have increased – learning all times tables up to 12x12.   Clarinet lessons  Twitter page to follow  Regular updates/photos on the school website

Home school contact books  Each child is responsible for their own reading book and home/school contact book  Checked by class teacher every Friday  If there’s a note in the book from parent(s) put on teacher’s desk  If they read at home, we would like the children to write it in themselves as well as what they enjoyed, etc.  Tick chart inside the front cover for you to initial

Weekly Timetable

How can you support your child at home with this?  List of spellings for the half term given out at the start of the term  Important the children are understanding the text they read.  Reading daily  Evidence of reading at home at least 4 times a week written in H/S books.

Numeracy  1 hour per day  Set in Year 4  Grouped according to previous assessments  Daily teaching time with class teacher or teaching assistant  Independent work to reinforce teaching  Use of practical resources to support learning.  Extra mental maths session each day.
