5 Homework – Each week will be given as follows: Reminder: Children should apply the same standards of presentation to their homework as their schoolwork.  Spellings will be given out Monday for the weekly test on Friday. If spellings are not learnt properly (no more than 3 incorrect spellings) your child will miss their break time on Friday in order to practise their spellings.  Reading Diary – Your child must write 2/3 sentences to summarise what they have read.  Times tables are practised regularly in class. Times table tests will be carried out on Thursdays, during Numeracy. That afternoon, Oksana will test your child, 1:1, on their target table; afterwards your child will be told their target table for the following week; this could be the same table until it is learnt.  Numeracy Homework is given every Monday to be handed in every Friday morning. This will always be based on something we have done during the week; if not it will be a times tables or number bond activities.

6 Key Reminders: Reading: In Hawthorn Class, we focus a great deal on understanding the content of what is being read. By asking your child a variety of questions about the text it will help to ensure they gain a full understanding of the plot, characters and themes. Children should read independently and to someone at home every day, for at least 15/ 20 minutes. Please find time to hear your child read and discuss their book with them. Please sign your child’s Reading Record Book indicating the number of pages; after hearing him/ her read. Remember in Years 4 & 5 your child is responsible for changing their own reading books provided that they can show evidence that the book has been read. This can be done first thing every morning. The consequence for not completing their daily summaries in their Reading Diary or neglecting to complete any part of their Weekly Homework means your child will miss part of their free time e.g. break/ lunch times.  Please hand in money (e.g. dinner money, trip money, etc.) in a labelled envelope to either myself or Oksana at the start of the day.
