Teacher Assistance Plan

You’ve completed the 3 observation cycles… now what? If the teacher did not meet the requirements for the Q-Comp incentive: o Inform teacher of their options - Re-do observation to meet requirements File an appeal within two weeks of post observation. Steering Committee dates are March 29 and April 28, with additional dates in May & June TBD.

Appeals Process As stated in the QComp Plan: The QComp Steering Committee will review all appeals. All appeals will be submitted in writing to the QComp Administrator, including specific concerns and rationale describing the discrepancy. Appeals may occur after Observation/Evaluation #1 and after Observation/Evaluation #3.

Appeals Process The Steering Committee may decide to: uphold the Decision of the Evaluator. reverse the Decision of the Evaluator. require a redo of the observation.

Tips to Avoid Appeals If a teacher doesn’t pass an observation, be sure to: Clearly document evidence for areas missed in AHEP In the post conference, communicate to the teacher that the observation did not meet the standard Document that all steps of the process have been followed

Form K Domain 1: Planning and Preparation Domain 2: The Classroom Environment Domain 3: Instruction Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities Student Achievement Goal

Scoring the Components in the Four Domains (blue handouts) Sources of Evidence Artifact Checklist Preponderance of Evidence We live in Proficient. We visit Distinguished. (May need to change the teachers’ mindsets!) Using the Teacher’s Self Assessment

Common Terms and Levels Used in the Framework UNSATISFACTORYBASICPROFICIENTDISTINGUISHED No Not Not clear Unaware Does not respond Poor Non congruent Little Low Inadequate Some Attempts to Limited Moderate Uneven Inconsistent Rudimentary Consistent High quality Timely Accurate Appropriate Clear Effective High expectations Aligned Solid Smoothly Productive All students Highly effective Entirely appropriate Adapted for Individualized Extensive Highly developed

Scoring the Student Achievement Goals (SAG) (green handouts) Important things to know… Teachers can re-write their goal. Some teachers may have changed their goal without your knowledge. Which one will you score? (Remember…it’s about the discussion and the reflection!) Some teachers may score “Distinguished” in all five SAG components, but may not receive their Q Comp incentive because they didn’t meet their goal. (Especially if it is tiered!)

Student Achievement Goal (SAG) (green handouts) What color should it be??? Red – The teacher submitted their goal. Purple – You’ve accepted their goal. Red – The teacher submitted their results and reflection. Green – You’ve signed off on their results.

Determining needs (green handouts ) Underline/highlight the supporting evidence to help you determine a Level of Performance.
