2 2 Outcomes Participants will… Review revised Professional Educator Performance Standards. Review and discuss draft rubrics with revised 4-tiered rating system for Standard V: Learning Environment and Standard VII: Student Academic Progress. Discuss and provide input on Professional Improvement Plans within the 4-tiered rating system. Discuss and provide input on guidelines for the overall evaluation rating.

6 Exploring “Approaching” Standards Work groups identified issues related to addition of “Approaching Standard” –What the language of that tier of the rubric should look like –How/when the “Approaching Standard” tier should be used Scenario Developed for Today –Standard V: Learning Environment 6

7 Standard V: Learning Environment The professional educator uses resources, routines, and procedures to provide a respectful, positive, safe, student-centered environment that is conducive to learning. Teacher Scenario #1 - Tom 5 th grade teacher/6 th grade math/Algebra I Continuing Contract in 4 th year Positive, personable “Rookie of the Year” End of third year, a little slip in instructional planning and classroom management 7

8 Supervision and Evaluation Timeline for CC Teacher Within 30 days of beginning of contract: Professional Growth Conference and Plan September – June: Ongoing informal observations, ongoing professional/coaching interactions, PGP review and refinement June 15: PGP review conference held and documented Currently, if a continuing contract teacher is not meeting a standard(s), he/she goes back onto the formal evaluation cycle and will need to receive a Mid-Year Report (signed first by Associate Superintendent) by February 8. 8

11 Reflective Conference In your reflective conference the next day, you and Tom talk about what you had observed. You remark that many of the students were off-task. He replied, yes, but they were at least quiet and under control. You show him the rubric of Standard V: Learning Environment and the two of you discuss what “meeting” this standard would look like in the classroom. What should have happened at this reflective conference? What are the critical components of a reflective conference? 11

32 Guidelines for Overall Evaluation Rating How do the individual standard ratings add up to the overall evaluation rating? E.g. Could “Not meeting” one standard result in an overall evaluation rating of “Not meeting?” 32

Please send this completed paper to Natalie Bonshire by May 4, 2012. All of your input from today and in the future will be used to make refinements to the PPP. 33
