There are 6 aspects of fitness: –Speed –Strength –Flexibility –Power –Cardio Respiratory Endurance –Local Muscular Endurance
Aspects of Fitness Cont’d SPEED –The ability to move the body or part of the body over a distance in a short period of time. –EXAMPLES (from athletics): requiring whole body speed; Sprinting requiring part body speed; Javelin. STRENGTH –The maximum force a muscle or group of muscles can produce in 1 go! –EXAMPLES (from athletics): Shot putt Javelin
Aspects of Fitness Cont’d FLEXIBILITY –Is the range of movement across a joint. Also known as suppleness. –EXAMPLES (from athletics): Javelin Hurdles High Jump POWER –Is a combination of strength and speed. Explosiveness. –EXAMPLES (from athletics): Long Jump High Jump Shot Putt
Aspects of Fitness Cont’d CARDIO RESPIRATORY ENDURANCE –The ability of the heart and lungs to supply oxygen to the working muscles for a long period of time. (CRE) –Also known as Cardio Vascular Endurance. –Two types: Aerobic and Anaerobic. –EXAMPLES (from athletics): 800 metres 1500 metres
