S3 Physical Education.

 To learn about the remaining aspects of physical fitness.  To be able to discuss the definitions, testing and training for each of the physical aspects.  To be able to identify sports and roles which require these aspects of fitness and explain why.

Aspects of Fitness Physical Cardio Respiratory Endurance Muscular Endurance Strength Power Speed Flexibility Skill Related Agility Coordination Reaction Time Balance Mental Confidence Motivation Concentration

You have so far discussed muscular endurance, cardio respiratory endurance, agility and speed through the practical sessions and theory. There are many other aspects of fitness which effect a performance. For the remaining physical factors you need to answer the questions asked. To do so use: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/standard/pe/th e_body/aspects_of_fitness_physical/revision/1 /

 Definition: Speed is the ability to cover a distance or perform a movement in a short time.  Testing: Timed 20m sprints Starting from a stationary position From a rolling start  How can you train to improve speed? What would be the difference and why?  Which factors limit you running speed?

 Definition: The maximum amount of force a muscle, or group of muscles, can exert in a single effort.  Give an example of an activity which requires strength and explain why.  How can you measure strength?  How can you train to improve strength?  Name the 3 types of strength. https://www.youtube.com/w atch?v=D-WEr2Tktps

 Definition: Power is the combination of strength and speed.  Give an example of an activity which requires power and explain why.  How can you measure power?  How can you train to improve power? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hr tFJZh2XWw

 Definition: Flexibility is the range of movement across a joint.  What are the benefits of increased flexibility?  What are the 2 types of flexibility?  Give a example of a sport which requires flexibility and explain why.  How can flexibility be improved?  How can you test flexibility? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S- UWdErmXuk

 Definition: The ability to move the body quickly and precisely. https://www.youtube.co m/watch?v=26n0bQtoel Y  Give a sport or role which requires good agility and explain why.  How can you test for agility?  How can you train to improve agility?

 Definition: The time taken from the stimulus to initiating the response.  Give an example of a sport which requires good reactions and explain why.  How can you test reaction time? https://www.youtube.com /watch?v=x0JU5p8WBZQ

 Definition: The ability to hold a position still/steady.  For each type of balance give an example of a sport or role which requires good balance and explain why.  How can you test balance?  What are the two types of balance?

 Definition: The ability to control movements smoothly and fluently.  Give an example of a sport which requires coordination and why.  How can you test coordination? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v =l6FDHTMwmcc
