Weaves Plain = simple over and under process Often use a cotton fiber that creates muslin, broadcloth, and taffeta fabrics Twill = Recognized by parallel diagonal ridges. Often use a cotton fiber that creates denim, chino, and gabardine fabrics

Weaves Satin = Floating of warp or weft yarns to create a smooth and slippery surface on fabric. *Silk and polyester fibers are used to make a satin fabric

Variations of Plain Weave Ribbed =Weft yarns are thicker than warp yarns *Cotton or rayon fibers used to make poplin and faille fabrics Basket = Two or more yarns grouped side by side in each direction and woven as one *Cotton fiber used to make hopsacking and oxford cloth fabrics

Variations of Plain and Twill Pile Weave = Three sets of yarns. The third yarn creates loops or a pile (nap) surface. Cut Loops = Cotton Fibers make Terry Cloth Fabric Uncut Loops = Cotton and some Synthetic Fibers make Corduroy and Velvet Fabrics
