16 The ACS550 offers Better EMC/harmonic performance
RFI-filter for first environment, restricted distribution with 30 m motor cable Swinging choke New motor control platform Sensorless vector , scalar Extended I/O compared to ACS 400 One additional digital input, one additional analogue output and one additional relay. Improved Fieldbus solution Modbus protocol embedded Others as snap-on options (same as ACS 800) Assistant control panel As standard Built-in brake chopper R1-R2

17 EMC Built-in RFI-filter as standard for
1st environment, unrestricted up to 10 m motor cables (conducted only) (requires external filter) 1st environment, restricted up to 100 m motor cables (30m for R3 and R4) 2nd environment up to 100 m motor cables, for all frames For longer cables external filters are available New way to suppress harmonics caused by the inverter : ‘swinging chokes’. DC choke with variable impedance reducing the harmonics. Line current THD is less than ACS400 Patent pending on the ‘swinging chokes’

48 User interfaces Assistant control panel functions Basic control panel
Run the start-up, maintenance and diagnostic assistants in conjunction with drive software Has help button, gives manual information List of changed parameters Real time clock 14 languages supported in the same panel Basic control panel Implement panel protocol to display and modify parameters Upload or download capabilities Real time clock built into the assistant control panel. Real time clock option is already provided by some latest releases of competitors (e.g. Toshiba). Providing this in a control panel is a new idea that makes installation much easier for the customer. Part of user’s manual built into the assistant control panel. This idea is widely used in other equipment but not in drives yet. Reduces the need to read the manual and makes the product easier to use.

49 Assistant control panel
Buttons of the Assistant control panel: Soft key 1 function Soft key 2 Function Soft key 1 Soft key 2 Down button (to change parameters and their value) Up button (to change parameters and their value) Loc / Rem mode Help button Stop button Start button

50 Assistant control panel - navigation

Macro’s Assistants Parameters Changed Parameter Fault logger Menu button Arrow buttons Enter button Menu Initial display Are the same button Available macro’s: ABB standard (Default Europe) 3-wire (Default US) Alternate Hand-Auto PID control PFC control Torque Control 2 User macros

51 Assistants Start - Up assistant guides the user through all essential settings to be done without going directly into the parameter list. Maintenance assistant can set the drive to criteria to insert preventive maintenance. Diagnostic assistant, is activated when a fault occurs.Gives suggestions to fix the system based on drive common sense.

52 Start - Up Assistant Start - Up assistant guides the user through all essential settings to be done without going directly into the parameter list. The user answers questions given by the drive, which will be set to the corresponding parameter. Related topics : motor parameters, application macro, IO. PID setting and drive optimisation the Start - Up assistant is activated in the menu edit mode.

53 Maintenance Assistant
Maintenance criteria can be set to signal the need for preventive maintenance. Input maintenance value for maintaining controlled system are given in parameter group 29. Relay Output can be used to signalise the ‘need’ for maintenance. Selectable maintenance criteria: kWh running hours motor rotation (Mrev = Mega rotations)

54 Diagnostic Assistant Is activated when a fault occurs.
Gives suggestions to fix the system based on drive common sense. Monitors : DC - bus voltage, speed, current, change of speed,… e.g.: high DC - bus voltage and decelerating and power flow is from motor to drive : use brake resistors or increase deceleration ramp time. Diagnostic assistant to speed up the problem solving situations. Expert system that makes logical conclusions and proposals in fault situations. For example if overvoltage comes when drive is decelerating and power is flowing from the motor to the drive. Drive tells that ramp time is too short and proposes longer ramp time (or adding a brake resistor if this is not connected). Or if overvoltage comes the when drive is running steady speed and output is stable .Overvoltage from network, drive gives instructions to reset the drive and continues running (and ask if customer wants to set autoreset on). Includes similar proposals for other faults like for over current and earth fault.

55 Questions How many assistants are there in the basic control panel ?
How many analogue outputs are there in the ACS550 ? How is the real time clock available ?

56 Field Bus For Orange All FBs will be either embedded or mechanically packaged inside the drive MODBUS is the embedded fieldbus. ACS 800 type Fieldbus modules are used to provide remaining FBs Available fieldbuses (more to follow): Profibus DeviceNet LonWorks ControlNet CanOpen

57 AnyBus Communicator Types of field busses: Gate way principle Profibus, DeviceNet, Ethernet, EtherNet/IP, CC-Link, InterBus, CANopen, ControlNet, LonWorks, AS-Interface, FIPIO, & Bluetooth. At the moment only Profibus and Devicenet preconfigured for ABB. Web page :

58 NEW DriveWindow Light 2.3 ACS550 can be detected

59 Other options Braking choppers and resistors
External braking units for frames R3 - R4 Control panel extension cable du/dt filters External RFI filters for longer motor cables (R1 to R4) ABB service : Upgrade kit IP21  IP54

60 Drive size given in Amps!
ACS 550 Type Code Not kVA! Drive size given in Amps! The type code follows the same format as the ACS 800 product The same option codes used with the ACS 800 will be used with options for the ACS 550 when applicable The ACS 550 uses current to indicate drive size. The US wanted HP and Europe wanted Kw and nobody wanted Kva The A indicates amps and when the rating is below 10 amps it also indicates a decimal point Amps is really what we should be using to select drives since that’s what we sell

61 Packaging ACS550 package includes : ACS550 drive
Assistant control panel (as standard), no panel or basic control panel (if ordered) Mounting template for the wall mounted units Fieldbus module (if ordered) RO module (if ordered) Easy to open package

62 Warranty policy Frame sizes R1 to R4 : Frame sizes R5 to R8 :
The complete unit is replaced Frame sizes R5 to R8 : Components are replaced Extended warranty period: No Extended warranty at this phase, until we have statistical information on ACS550 field quality.
