1 Tohickon Middle School Preparing You For 10 th Grade

2 Time Line for Program Planning 1.Teachers will make recommendations for 2016-2017. Drag sheets and information will be sent home on January 12 th 2.Students and parents will enter course selections through the Parent Portal online (January 12th– February 7th). 3.Counselors will meet individually with all 9th graders to go over all courses entered on line.

3 Time Line for Program Planning. Verification sheets will be sent home on March 4 th for parent approval/SIGNATURE. Any changes must be submitted to Tohickon Counselors in WRITING and with a parent signature by March 15 th, 2016.. At the end of the year, courses needing pre-requisites are checked for accuracy, especially in the areas of world language and math

5 Block Scheduling (Intensive Scheduling) 90 minute classes meet each day (Except for performing music classes and a few other classes that meet every other day) AP classes meet 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd marking periods All other classes meet for one marking period (.5 credit) or one semester (1.0 credit)

6 What classes should your child be considering? Students should be taking the most rigorous schedule they can handle without taxing themselves too much Allow students to adapt to high school and feel successful Try to achieve a BALANCE Too many strenuous academics can be just as poor a choice as too many electives Colleges are looking for well-rounded students.

7 CREDITS Standard Diploma 27.25 credits Scholar’s Diploma 28.25 credits Upon leaving 9 th grade each student will have earned 6 credits, provided they have passed each of their classes.

8 GUIDELINES English, Social Studies and Math MUST be taken all 4 years..Math and World Language MUST follow a certain sequence. Prerequisites MUST be met.

9 STUDY HALLS 90 minutes long every day or every other day Is it too much? May not have more than ONE BLOCK per day.
