Look at the three pictures on those pages and read the captions to answer the following questions:  Picture 1 (pg 250)-What was one benefit railroads provided to help spur the Industrial Revolution?  Picture 2 (pg 251/top)-Why do workers (then and now) go on strike?  Picture 3 (pg 251/bottom)-What do you think the working conditions were like in the Great Gas Light Establishment?

4 Industrial Revolution  What: greatly increased output of machine-made goods that began in England during the 18 th century  Importance: the change that begins in Britain paves the way for modern industrial societies

6 Agricultural Revolution  By early 1700s, wealthy landowners started buying up much of the land  They will start dramatically improving farming methods  This will pave the way for the Industrial Revolution

7 Enclosure Movement  Wealthy landowners started to close off their lands with fences or hedges  Results:  Experimented with new agricultural methods  Forced small farmers to give up farming and move to the cities

8 Increase in FOOD Production  Crop Rotation: rotate the crop you harvested to make the soil fertile  Livestock Breeding: breed the healthiest animals to produce bigger animals….which equals more FOOD

9  More Food AND  Better Living Conditions  =Population Boom

Your job is to report the news back to the government of your home nation and describe in detail the changes England is undergoing w/ the Industrial Revolution.
