Unit 1 – Improving Productivity Mollie painter. Instructions- 100 words per box

1.1Why did you use a computer? What other systems / resources could you have used? No comp- Pen and paper- if I didn’t have a computer I would use pen and paper because it can be used for a poster in the end and all the ideas are from head not been copied of a computer or the internet. Assemblies- if I didn’t have a computer I would make an assembly in front of the whole school and show attention of what I needed to present, and show what I would show on the computer slideshow as a speech to the school. No pp- Word- letter- If I didn’t have PowerPoint I would use word because I could write a letter on there and explain what I’m saying in the letters and just print that off and send the letter around. Publisher- poster/leaflet- I would use publisher because I can create a poster or a leaflet which I can then print and give out to all pupils and adults showing what was said. Making an assembly would be easier because your making it to show everyone and it makes it much easier then if I done it on paper or something because and assembly can be played over again so it means you can show it simpler rather than printing out many sheets and wasting paper and time.

1.2What skills did you need to learn in order to use PowerPoint? In primary you are taught the basic like how to add slides and how to add colour to the writing but by years 10 and 11 you will learn how to use hyperlink and how to make your work look more professional and make your presentations more interesting. You will learn how to add photos videos and charts to your work and how to make your work more interesting than it would if you was to do it in year 6,7 and 8. No matter what I can do in year 10 is a lot more detailed and presented more professional because of all the things I have learnt over the years, everything I do on PowerPoints now are more immaculate and more tidy because of the skills that I know of now.

1.2What resources did you need to make the presentation successful? Resources which made the presentation successful is things like video. This made the presentation successful is things like video, because it’s a quickest way to show what’s going on in the photo. Videos are needed mostly because they are more easier to explain to someone then words for example young children. It would be easier for them to understand then if it was a PowerPoint of just words because its harder for children to understand because of the amount of words on the point and they would be muddled up with all the words. Photos would help because it shows what's going on it doesn’t just show it with just words or videos it has photos which explain it to.

1.4What factors might have affected how well you completed the presentation? (e.g. time / attendance / knowledge of software) Factors which could have affected how well I did the presentation would have been things like people distracting each other, which is showing that your going to get you distracted and stop you working properly, because it took longer to do my work which meant I didn't complete my work as fast as others. Another way would be to go to catch up lessons when your not In school so you can catch up with what you missed out on when you wasn’t In. so for when you come there is less people in the room, but the teachers is more available to talk to because theirs not many people in the room.

1.6Why did you use PowerPoint to make your presentation? What other software was available? Why did you choose not to use them? Because PowerPoint is more useful because it can be used for presentations which are done in a lesson or in an assembly where it’s presented on slides. Other available software would be word, I could have used word because word can be used for writing letters, but using word could take up too much paper or it might get a bit boring because there's so many pieces of paper, if was to be posted to your house it may just get chucked in the bin, because it doesn’t look interesting. But on PowerPoint you don’t need to you can just email it to people.

1.7Were there any legal constraints or local constraints that changed the way you created your presentation? (e.g. copyright, file sizes, AUP) Copyright is when somebody owns something and has the C sign on the c is meaning copyright so its owned by them, to be able to use what has the C on you have to have permission on to use otherwise it is classed as fraud. Copying and pasting somebody's work is classed as plagiarism unless you have been given the permission to copy their work, you would also have to include their names showing that it is their work. The writing I have used in my work has not been copy written or copied of anywhere, everything. I had to use the photos with are on RMSHARED, although the photos on the internet was better, I couldn’t because it could have took too long to wait and ask for permission.

2.2Which tools within PowerPoint made it appropriate for your presentation? One tool is videos, videos are easier to be watched for young children because, children aren’t very good readers and it would take them a while to read but if they was to watch it on a video its easier for them to look at, because a video shows it in more detail them writing. Another tool is slide transitions, this is good because they make it look more professional and is a lot more interesting then if it was just boring and straight away on the screen, slide transitions make it look better by how the writing enters the page in a fashionable way and will keep the child's interest for longer than you would if the writing was normal.

2.4What improvements do you think you could do to your presentation? I think that to improve this I could have made it less boring and more interesting. I Could have tried to make it less confusing when putting the buttons on the presentations, because the buttons where in different places so it would have been more confusing then if they was in the right place on every slide, I put them in the wrong places which made the page look untidy and like the presentation wasn’t cared for. Another thing was the writing on my PowerPoint I could have added more writing but also more photos so they could see from photos what the school was like and not just what the writing was telling you about the building.

3.2What improvements do you think you could have done to improve your work rate? (keyboard shortcuts, file names & locations, backups, work after school, templates, planning) Next time I could use keyboard shortcuts because it will take a lot quicker than if I use the right click button but it will be faster to do it. I could also improve my work by coming to after school sessions and finishing my work so I am up to date with my work. I didn’t plan my work but thinking about it now I will improve my work rate by planning my work, it will also help me out to work faster and complete it because I know what I have to do. If I plan my work it means that I can start a lot sooner and I will already know what I have to do because everything will already be wrote down and them I only have to write it up and make it into a presentation for everyone to see, but if I don’t plan like I haven’t now it will take much longer because you don’t know what your doing and you have to think it off the top of your head which means its going to take a lot longer.
