1 WELCOME To 5th Grade! Room #29

2 About Me Mrs. Anna Packowitz Family –Husband: Brian Packowitz- Spanish teacher at Mundelein High School Education –University of Iowa –Elementary Education Major/Theatre Minor –Masters in Reading from Northeastern Hobbies –Tennis, Turtles, Drama/Theatre, Family and Friends. Sixth year teacher with a great love for teaching! I’m very excited to be atWilmot!

3 Classroom Rules Our classroom should be a safe place where students can be themselves and learning can take place. In order to accomplish this students need to: Respect Themselves Respect Others Respect Property

4 Consequences 3 strike rule- 2 warnings Conference with Mrs. Packowitz Communication home If behavior continues, conference with Mrs. Brett and the student. Ongoing behavior concerns will result in a conference between Mrs. Brett, the student and myself along with any other party involved.

5 Snacks Students are allowed to bring a healthy snack to eat in the morning. We are a NUT FREE classroom. There was a form that went home explaining what types of nut free snacks would be appropriate. Please have your child bring a water bottle to school!

6 Homework In fifth grade, students are expected to complete larger amounts of homework and long-term projects. All homework assignments are fully explained in school each day and are expected to be turned in on time. Homework Assignments can include: –Home Connections for Math –Read 30 minutes daily - Weekly Geography challenges –Published Writing Pieces –Reader Response Journals –All homework is a reflection of the lessons taught at school.

7 Homework Alert Students are responsible for bringing their assignments on time. A students first two missing assignments are considered warnings. Once there are three missing assignments, the student is given a homework alert that needs to be signed by a parent. This signed alert needs to be returned to Mrs. Packowitz with the missing assignments completed the day after it is given. If you anticipate a long absence due to a family obligation or vacation, please let me know as early as possible.

8 Classroom Management Tickets: –Tickets are given to students for positive classroom behavior. –Treasure is on the last Friday of each month. Students who earn certain amount of tickets will earn an incentive of their choice. These include as homework pass, drink of choice, candy for snack,etc.

9 Classroom Management (cont.) Mystery Motivator –This is a whole group management system. Everyone must work together to earn mystery motivator. –If classroom rules are followed, and student are given compliments one randomly selected student picks from a bag of numbers to add to class bingo board. Once there are 10 numbers in a row, the class earns a prize of their choice.

10 New Wilmot Hallway Rules Voice levels- Student have been given a list of a range of voice levels from 0-4. Voices must be at “0” when in the hallway. 0 being silent 1 whispering 2 group work talking 3 louder voices 4 VERY loud voices

11 School Supplies Please check with your child frequently to know which supplies need to be replaced. Students will put a note in their assignment notebook if something is needed. Any supplies we do not use will be returned at the end of the year.

12 Wilmot Take Home Folder Your child will be bringing home a take home folder each day. Please check inside this folder daily for important papers, notes and homework. This folder should be returned the next morning. The take home folder should be emptied at the end of each week.

13 Monday Folders Every two weeks on a Monday, a folder will be coming home with the graded assignments from those 2 weeks. Students will also do a reflection of the work done for the past 2 weeks and make goals for future assignments. Folders need a parent signature and comments are welcome Return them the next school day.

14 Assignment Notebooks Comes home everyday with homework written down daily Check for homework and important reminders Review with your child Return to school the next morning Use to write me a quick note if needed

15 Weekly Updates Every week updates regarding classroom information and school events, will be available on our classroom webpage: http://www.dps109.org/wilmot/websites/a caputo/Pages/. All Wilmot mail is sent home on the day it is distributed to the teachers.

16 Specials Special Subjects: -Our special subject days are below. You may find this helpful to know so you can dress your child appropriately for gym days. ART: Wed: 9:30-10:10 Fri: 9:30-10:10 MUSIC: Mon: 8:50-9:30 Thurs: 9:30-10:10 P.E.: Tues: 8:50-9:30 Thurs: 8:50-9:30 LMC: Fri: 1:15-1:45 SPANISH: Mon: 12:40-1:10 Tues: 12:40-1:10 Thurs ALT.: 1:40-2:10

17 Wilmot Volunteers Please park in only the designated areas Make sure to sign in at the office Please do not come up to the classroom before signing in at the office Wear a visitor badge

18 Birthdays Your child is welcome to donate a birthday book or game to celebrate his/her special day. –You can wrap the book or game to make it special Please do not send in snacks due to various allergies in the school.

19 Parent Teacher Conferences Parent teacher conferences are on Monday, November 19 th and Tuesday, November 20 th. Please sign up outside of the GMA on the tables where the sign up sheets are. There are also PTO sign up sheets and a contact information sheet. On my back table are 2 things to check: –Tennis ball donations –Wilmot Buzz Book Directory
