1 Unit 1 – Improving Productivity Instructions ~ 100 words per box

2 1.1Why did you use a computer? What other systems / resources could you have used? If I didn’t use the computer I would of produced a written leaflet or could of done it as a assembly or word or an web page it is better on the computer because you can research, add sound and animation and pictures. Using a computer allows me to save my work so it doesn’t get lost and come back to it whenever I want to add more information. It would be harder to show an audience a presentation that was on paper because from a far distance they will not be able to see the paper. You also couldn’t use sound or hyperlinks on paper this will make it less interesting. Using paper will cost more more because you will have to get the paper and use pen and colours where as using a computer it has all the resources.

3 1.2What skills did you need to learn in order to use PowerPoint? I had to learn how to insert a new slide so that I could do the 12 slides minimum. I had to learn how to insert a hyperlink. I had to learn how to insert text boxes. I had to learn how to insert pictures and videos. I had to learn how to insert a title. I had to learn how to insert a bullet point. I had to learn how to insert word art. I had to learn how to take a screen shot. I had to learn how to underline. I knew how to save. I knew how to get Into my area. I knew how to change to size and style of the font. I knew how to insert a chart.

4 1.2What resources did you need to make the presentation successful? Movie maker- to edit the video to make it shorter graphics this will make the size of the presentation more manageable. Shared area- because this is where the college have saved lots of things like photos what I can use and I do not have to go on the website looking for them. Sound package- like audacity to edit the sounds so that you can have shorter sound on the slides. Internet- to research things and get information to add to the slides and also get pictures. Graphics package- like fireworks that you use to edit to change your pictures.

5 1.4What factors might have affected how well you completed the presentation? (e.g. time / attendance / knowledge of software) Talking affected how well I finished my presentation this is because I was focused on something else rather then doing my work. A lack of concentration has stopped my from completing my presentation I was focused on other things in lesson rather than doing my work and I am easily distracted by noise and the class is loud so that didn’t help. Arriving late to lesson puts me behind and wastes the teachers time because she has to repeat her self and I do not know what I am doing this has been a reason why I didn’t finish my presentation as well. When I focus I get a lot of work done but I didn’t use to focus and work to my best ability this is why I didn’t finish my presentation.

6 1.6Why did you use PowerPoint to make your presentation? What other software was available? Why did you choose not to use them? I chose to use power point instead of word because its more expensive to use word power points cheaper to use power point because you can display power point to 100 people and it doesn’t cost you a lot and with word it will have to give everybody a individual copy which will cost you more publisher is cheaper than word as well so if somebody was giving a presentation I would not advise them to use word because you can only put static graphics on I could have done it on a website because I could have done everything that I have done on power point on the website but I have had to learn new skills which would have taken time and it might not have been the same standard that I could of done on power point.

7 2.2Which tools within PowerPoint made it appropriate for your presentation? Insertion of slides Because on word it’s a big page but on power point you can make the audience focus on one thing at a time. And on power point you can put the text box anywhere you want and add text to it. This makes the slide look attractive to the audience. On power point you can make a hyper link from the slide to the internet and you can do it in whatever order you like and you can put one on each slide if you like. On power point you can use a master slide I use to put things on that I want on every slide this save you a lot of time. On power point you can insert lots of different medium such as sound, video, animation and this makes the presentation more interesting.

8 1.7Were there any legal constraints or local constraints that changed the way you created your presentation? (e.g. copyright, file sizes, AUP) I might be breaking Copyright as I have used photos, videos and sound that I haven’t created however I thought it was okay as it was on the college website or network. If I was to show this presentation to my audience I would need to ask the college to use their resources. Another problem I had was file size that the videos was quite big that were available and I had to use the smaller ones which were poorer quality to upload to ingots to keep within the file size quotes.

9 2.4What improvements do you think you could do to your presentation? Add more sound and better videos and add a lot more irrelevant information add some better animation and hyper link on all slides colour back ground and the same font size. On every slide and I would of put the videos in better proportion and added more information on the subjects slide and times I don’t believe I used the right information I would of also used lot of bullet points for extra information on the slide and I would of also planned the presentation before I did it and would have came back after school to make sure I did the presentation at the best of my ability, I also believe the presentation would have been more successful on a slide show.

10 3.2What improvements do you think you could have done to improve your work rate? (keyboard shortcuts, file names & locations, backups, work after school, templates, planning) Improvement to improve my work rate are… Planning your work and knowing what you need to do. Setting you self-time scales when to come back after school or doing extra work Time management make sure you do what you say and don’t miss any sections. Distractions that you are easily destruction such as going to the toilet and talking to a class mate and the internet playing games. Saving your work properly and in an appropriate place.
