USSR Soviet Union During WWII the Soviet Union and the US resented one another for a few reasons Both Raced for Berlin US was upset about the Nonaggression Pact Stalin made with Hitler USSR was upset about US’s long delay before invading Europe

3 Communism and Democracy Clash
At the Potsdam Conference – Stalin refuses to hold open elections Stalin set up Satellite Nations countries that were dependent upon and dominated by the Soviet Union Stalin gives a speech saying communism and capitalism is incompatible and that another war is unavoidable Soviet Union concentrates on building weapons instead of consumer goods.

5 Berlin Airlift Berlin Airlift – Soviet Union blockaded western Berlin.
In response, America and the British flew food and goods into Western Berlin fed and fueled Berlin’s 2.1 million people. After a year of airlifting goods to Berlin, USSR leaves West Berlin alone.

NATO – military alliance between nations formed to protect themselves from Communism. “An Attack on One Would Be Regarded as an Attack on All”

7 Warsaw Pact In response to the threat of NATO, Russia and its allies formed the Warsaw Pact
