3 Perspective When referring to point of view in a piece of writing, perspective describes one opinion or outlook about a topic.

4 Foreshadowing The use of clues to hint at events that will occur later in the plot.

A person of lower rank It is making something less important

6 interpret To come to an understanding so you are able to explain the meaning of something

7 Flashback A sudden and vivid memory of an event in the past

8 Mood The overall feeling or emotion you get from the author by the language he chooses Paul is hopeful.

Symbol---an object, person, or place that stands for something else Imagery---Descriptive language used to create word pictures Figurative Language---Imaginative language that is not meant to be taken literally Tone---A writer’s or speaker’s attitude toward a subject Theme---The central idea, message, or purpose

10 Allusion A reference to a well-known person, place, event, literary work “Don’t act like a Romeo in front of her.” – “Romeo” is a reference to Shakespeare’s Romeo, a man who loved a woman so much that he could not bear to live without her. You're a regular Einstein. (allusion to a historical figure, a man who was very smart)
