Our book for the week is “Houses” and the sight words are “by & have”. Please have your child practice reading and writing their sight words at home.
We will begin learning about our community and the people and jobs that work within it.
In Reading Workshop, we will begin a new Unit of Study on Poetry. April is national poetry month and students will listen to poems and their rhythmic flow. They will also practice reading poems during independent and partner reading.
In Writing Workshop, students will begin the Functional Writing Unit of Study. This unit focuses on writing for a purpose. At this age, students will look at writing lists, recipes, and letters. Students will practice this style of writing during independent writing.

Math
This week we will begin Module 11. In this Module, students will learn how to interpret the language of word problems in order to determine if they are addition or subtraction. They will also use strategies to solve word problems like acting them out and drawing pictures. Students will also use concrete manipulatives to help them develop their number sense and support their problem solving strategies.
