Mrs. Hawkins’ First Grade News August 28, 2017
A Peek At The Week
-In reading we are beginning to direct instruction at each child’s reading level. Students are participating in small group lessons and independent work time with their reading teacher.
-During math we are focusing on decomposing the whole numbers 6 and 7. Students are using math manipulatives to decompose these numbers into their many different parts. We will also start blended learning using our online math curriculum. Please send in headphones if you have not yet done so!
-Throughout writing time this week we will be writing about things we like to do. Students will listen to a mentor text and explore the many things they like to do.
-In Social Studies we will look at maps and globes while beginning a focus on Geography.
Homework Ideas
Homework will start at the beginning of NEXT week!
Reminders
- In class I have seen lots of runny noises and have heard lots of coughs. To help stop the spread of germs if you are able to send in donations of hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes it would be greatly appreciated.
Looking Ahead
-September 4th: Labor Day, no school for students or staff
-September 15th: First annual Monfort Jog-a-thon fundraiser (during specials times)
