1 A Peek At The Week -In reading we are continuing to switch to our leveled reading groups. Students should be bringing home daily reading homework. Look for the yellow RMSE page! -During math we will begin to look at doubles (1+1=2, 2+2=4…), look for patterns between addition sentences with similar parts and similar totals, and begin to look at subtraction problems. -This week during writing we will create a 4 Star story about activities we like to do with a friend! Stories will include neat handwriting, finger spaces, capitals, periods, and a neat illustration. We will also get to write a creative story about things we notice in the Fall! -During our Core Knowledge time we will finish up our unit on Animals and Habitats. This week students will learn about the fresh water and salt water habitats. We will also discuss habitat destruction and endangered species. Students will get to end the unit by picking their favorite habitat to create a habitat plate. Homework Ideas -Please take time to read with your child every night for minutes. -Continue work on the number bond sprints that come home each day. If kiddos have bonds circled they can fix it and bring it back the next day! Mrs. Hawkins’ First Grade News September 26, 2016 Looking Ahead -Fundraisers are due tomorrow September 27th. -September 28th: Box Top competition kick-off, please send in any box tops that you have collected to help out first grade in our competition! -Picture Day is October 6th. -Field Day is scheduled for Friday, October 7th. -October 11th: MSA meeting #2 in the Learning Lab (Library) at 6pm. -Friday, October 14th- No school - Fall festival October 21st 5:30-8:30pm Extra News -Fall is here! The mornings are starting to get chilly so remember to send your kiddo to school with a light jacket to help stay warm during morning recess before school starts! Specials this Week Monday is an A day- Art Tuesday is a M day- Music Wednesday is a P day- P.E. Thursday is a C day- Computers Friday is an A day- Art **Remember to wear tennis shoes on P.E. days** Reminders -Please get in the routine of taking papers out of the folders every night and returning the folder everyday. Many folders are coming back full with no room to add more papers.
