Teacher’s Name: Philamin Mendez GLEs and Standards Covered (Include Descriptions): Describe the characteristics of major biomes on Earth (SE-H-A1) Task Overview Learning Objective(s) Suggested Technology Create, share and review documentaries about biomes Students will create a multimedia presentation on biomes to share with peers and review. -Internet-connected iPads with video capability -iMovie app (optional) -Prior task card products Participate in a guided outside tour to identify various plant and animal species. Students will collect data and learn different types of biomes and differentiate them -Internet-connected iPads with camera -PowerPoint or other slideshow app View and answer questions about biomes. Students will learn different types of biomes and differentiate them. -Edpuzzle website -Internet-connected device List the different types of biomes and their characteristic features while viewing the PowerPoint presentation. -PowerPoint presentation on biomes via Blackboard REDEFINITION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable. transformation MODIFICATION Technology allows for significant task redesign.. AUGMENTATION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with some functional improvement. enhancement SUBSTITUTION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with no real change.

2 Types of Biomes and their Characteristics
List the different types of biomes and their characteristic features while viewing the PowerPoint presentation. SUBSTITUTION Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement Go to the class Blackboard site. Click on the Biome PowerPoint presentation. View it and take notes on each of the biome characteristics. This Task Uses: PowerPoint presentation on biomes via Blackboard Internet-connected device Learning Objective(s): Students will learn different types of biomes and differentiate them. TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ Philamin School: LaGrange High School Louisiana State Standard: Describe the characteristics of major biomes on Earth (SE-H-A1) Grade Level/Subject: 9th & 10th grade environmental science Special Directions/Considerations: teachers can link to their own presentation or one shared via Slideshare ( Activity Evaluation: Prerequisites for students:

3 A EDpuzzle Biome Video View and answer questions about biomes. AUGMENTATION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with some functional improvement. 1. Use your class nickname and password and go to the class Edpuzzle dashboard. 2. Select the Ecosystems and Biomes video. 3. Watch the video and complete the questions. This Task Uses: Edpuzzle website Internet-connected device Learning Objective(s): Students will learn different types of biomes and differentiate them. TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ Philamin School: LaGrange High School Louisiana State Standard: Describe the characteristics of major biomes on Earth (SE-H-A1) Grade Level/Subject: 9th & 10th grade environmental science Special Directions/Considerations: teachers will need to have an Edpuzzle account and share the video via the site – students can create their own nicknames/log-ins without using an when the teacher shares the ability to do so – link to biome video: Activity Evaluation: Prerequisites for students:

4 significant task redesign.
M Outside Biome Tour Participate in a guided outside tour to identify various plant and animal species. MODIFICATION Technology allows for significant task redesign. While outside with the class, take pictures of at least 3 plants and at least 3 animals. Use this site: to identify the species of each. Once identified, determine which biome(s) in which they exist by using the or sites. Once the biome is identified, create a slideshow using a digital app (PowerPoint or other) that shares what information you have found about each species and the biomes in which they exist. Conclude the slide by listing the biodiversity that exists in the biomes. This task uses: -Internet-connected iPads with camera -PowerPoint or other slideshow app Learning Objective(s): Students will collect data and learn different types of biomes and differentiate them Teacher’s name/ Philamin School: LaGrange High School Louisiana State Standard: Describe the characteristics of major biomes on Earth (SE-H-A1) Grade Level/Subject: 9th & 10th grade environmental science Special Directions/Considerations: Activity Evaluation: Prerequisites for students:

5 R Biome Documentary Create, share and review documentaries about biomes. REDEFINITION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable. Using the information you learned through note-taking, video assessment, outside biome activity (tasks S, A, and M), collaborate with a group to create a 2-3 minute documentary about a biome using the video camera or the iMovie app. Be sure to include the characteristics of the biome along with images you collected on the outdoor tour. Save the video on the camera roll to share with the class. Everyone will rate each of the videos and provide a positive comment along with one suggestion for improvement. This task uses: -Internet-connected iPads with video capability -iMovie app (optional) -Prior task card products Learning Objective(s): Students will create a multimedia presentation on biomes to share with peers and review. Teacher’s name/ Philamin School: LaGrange High School Louisiana State Standard: Describe the characteristics of major biomes on Earth (SE-H-A1) Grade Level/Subject: 9th & 10th grade environmental science Special Directions/Considerations: this task requires content created by students in the prior task cards Activity Evaluation: Prerequisites for students:

6 Biome presentation Students will make a presentation about types of biomes and educate class mates Students make a documentary about biomes. collaborate the biomes relate to their real life situation and seek out which biomes they live in with reasonable answers and findings. (National Geographic channel) This task uses: power point ,video National geographical channel Learning Objective(s): Students will learn different types of biomes and differentiate them TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ School: Louisiana State Standard: Grade Level/Subject: Special Directions/Considerations: Activity Evaluation: Prerequisites for students:
