Parts of the flower The part that contains the female reproductive organs. The top part of the pistil that is sticky to catch pollen. The hollow tube connecting the stigma to the ovary. The hollow structure at the base of the flower (turns into the fruit). This contains the egg cells (turns into the seed(s)). pistil stigma style ovary ovule(s)

This is the structure that contains the male reproductive organs. The knob-like structure that produces the pollen. Structure that contains the sperm cell. The stalk-like structure of the stamen. stamen anther pollen filament

The very colorful leaf-like structures that attract animals and insects. The leaf-like structure that protects the developing flower (bud). Structure that connects the flower to the stem. petals sepals receptacle

A flower with both male and female structures. A flower with only male or female structures. perfect imperfect

A flower with all the male, female, and non-gender structures (stamen, pistil, sepals, petals, and receptacle). complete A flower missing any structure. incomplete

Making a Seed fertilization The process by which the pollen is carried to the stigma. When the pollen from the anther is carried to the stigma of the same flower. When the pollen of the anther is carried to the stigma of another flower. When the sperm cell from the pollen combines with the egg cell in the ovule making a single cell. pollination self-pollination cross-pollination
