Research Week 1. Sign out a laptop 2. Get out research instructions 3. Notes or take pics of the slides this week

Other Announcements Turn in F451 novels

Researching Be sure to copy and paste your websites you take information from so you can go back to them when you make your works cited!!

Intro & Thesis Tuesday Attention grabber Research why books in general are banned and challenged. Remember, choose your three thesis points and THOSE points are the three points for each of your paragraphs word-for-word We will talk about transition words tomorrow. Those three points are the ones you will research and also more than likely, use quotes from the novel of choice

Body Paragraphs Wednesday Remember, your THESIS makes up the points for your body paragraphs. Whatever order you put your thesis in is the SAME order as your paper. Although many books are banned, Fahrenheit 451 is banned for violence, profanity, and fire. P1: violence P2: Profanity P3: fire Use transition words to help flow points into each paragraph. You want to steer clear of first, second, third, etc. but use the thesis point to help transition. DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT use FIRST person in research. This is not about what you think or feel or anything about YOU. IT IS RESEARCH! If you cannot restrain, do this: I think that F451 is banned for violence. Then do this I think that F451 is banned for violence Citations: “sentence” (source). OR “sentence” (source) “sentence” (source).

Conclusion Thursday End with restating your thesis Get readers involved---tell them something about banned/challenged books (like read them or research) Closing thought—what do you think about the topic without YOU

MLA & Works Cited & Citations Thursday Sample paper; google MLA formatting for samples too Works Cited: Son of citation machine: Citations go in alphabetical order and if it starts with a number those go first Works Cited: Or create a noodletools account! This actually puts your works cited in correct formatting automatically for you!

Quotes Friday If you start with a quote, that is GREAT! However, it should look like this: Walt Disney once said, “When you wish upon a star” (citation). The rest of your paper right after. NOT: “When you wish upon a star.” – Walt Disney You have to have the quote in your works cited!

Turnitin.com Friday Go to At the top, click create account. Go down to the bottom of that page and click student. Fill out the information is asks for. Use the info below to help set up your account by your class ID and enrollment password (you will also create your own password). This site checks plagiarism. This paper will be -10pts if not used; next papers=NOT SCORED. Period 1: Class id: Enrollment password: bannedbooks1 Period 2: Class id: Enrollment password: bannedbooks2 Period 7: Class id: Enrollment password: bannedbooks3

Rubric Friday Due 10/14 or your paper WILL NOT BE GRADED. Maybe take a pic of it and turn it to your folder now? Or just know it is on my website!
