I need 6 volunteers. Four of you stand on the right and two of you stand on the left. Four birds were sitting on a fence. Two more birds flew over to join them. How many birds were there in total? What number sentence can we write on the board to match the story? What numbers are the “parts” and what number is the “total?” Working with Count- On Fact Families

Turnaround Facts- the same numbers in each sentence are used to describe the parts and total. Working with Count- On Fact Families Related Facts- subtraction facts do not have turnarounds, because trying to turnaround a subtraction fact in the same way as a addition fact creates sentences that are not true.

Turnaround Facts- the same numbers in each sentence are used to describe the parts and total. Working with Count- On Fact Families Related Facts- Turning Around” subtraction facts creates related facts.

Fact Families- two addition facts and two subtraction facts that involve the same parts and total are called a fact family These are two parts. What is the total? What is the fact family? Working with Count- On Fact Families
