In a world that's changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risk” Mary Barra CEO General Motors “change is imperative: I’m not asking people to do it. It’s a requirement—not only that they hold themselves accountable to do it, but that they hold others accountable.”

The idea is simple. Instead of constructing immoveable concrete buildings, we’ll create lightweight block-like structures which can be moved around easily as we invest in new product areas. Here is how Google thinks about it.

In their 2015 Design Forecast Gensler identified "Change" in 8 of their 20 trends “The workplace is the center of the action. Factors like workforce mobility and higher real estate densities make it much harder for organizations to leverage change to realize their vision of the future.” “In a volatile world, agility is prized, so the future workplace will be flexible, adaptable, and fit to the purpose.” “The mantra of real estate owners and managers is market relevance. Both expect spaces that can be reshaped on the fly to suit their changing needs.” “Tech companies run at a faster pace than most other sectors. Their planning horizons fluctuate, so the ability to turn on a dime is crucial. That means exploring innovations like untethered power.” “Facilities need to support cross-team collaboration and let teams reshape the workspace to meet their evolving needs.” “Governments at every level are looking for ways to provide services at lower cost streamlining their portfolios by consolidating at a higher workplace density.” “Media work is fluid, intense, and highly collaborative. Media workspace will be open, amenity filled, flexible in relation to new technologies, and capable of being scaled up fast for growth.” “Future-proofing will be a high priority, with greater flexibility to accommodate headcount shifts and evolving work styles cost-effectively within the same footprint.”
