 Development  Pre-production  Production  Post-production  Distribution

Pre-production  Script writing- Nicholas Sparks is the author of the book Safe Haven and the script writers of the film are Dana Stevens and Gage Lansky.  Location visits- Brooke Barnhill was the location manager for the film Safe Haven. The girl in the film leaves her house in Boston to start a new life in Southport, North Carolina. This is where the main storyline of the film is set. However, some parts of the film are filmed in Louisiana.  Storyboarding- The storyboard artist draw out each scene and annotate it with directions for the producer and director.  Casting- Rich Mento was the casting director of the film. The associate casting director for Safe Haven is Robyn Owen. The casting director is in charge of the auditions and tells the cast who they would like to play each part  Costume design- Leigh Leverett was the designer for all the costumes that the characters wore in each part of the scenes in the film. She had to choose wisely on what costume suited their character at the specific time of the film.  Composing music- Miles Bergsma is the composer for the film safe haven. This means that the music that is playing in parts of the film was his choice as he believed it best suited the film and that scene at the time. The composer also has the role on how they believe that music can attract viewers and make them want to carry on watching the film.

Production  Production is the making of the film so to put it all together it will include the roles, filming and acting. The filming would be achieved by the film producer, actors and director. For example, the film Safe Haven contains many producers one of which is Nicholas Sparks. Also, the main actors include Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough, therefore, all of these people contribute into making the film.  The acting would be done by the cast that were chose in the pre production, for example, Josh Duhamel as Alex and Julianne Hough as Katie/Erin.

Post-Production  The post production consists of editing and distribution of the film. This includes the editing of sounds and footage and the distribution include the marketing and advertising of the film.  The editing of the sound would be done by the sound editor, in the film Safe Haven it is John Morris and the editing of footage was by the film editor who is Andrew Mondshein.

 A film can get funded in two different ways, either publically or privately.  Public funding is the control of the government whereas private funding is when investors are hired to review your film so they can advertise it.  If a film is privately funded, the executive producer is the common funded of the film. For example, the film Safe Haven has more than one executive producer, although one of the persons are Jason Beckman, therefore, if the film were to get privately funded, he would have been the source of funding as well as the other executive producers.

 A budget of a film is usually divided into four sections: - Above the line- Creative talent - Below the line- Direct production cost - Post production- Editing - Other- Includes things such as the insurance that is needed to produce the film.  Film financing can also be established from a private investor, sponsor, product placement, film studio, entertainment company and out of pocket funds.

 Above the line costs is when the money that you pay goes to the creativity of the film. For example, the screenwriter, producer, director and the actors and actresses. However, these are fixed costs, for example, if a scene is cut from the script, the writer will still get paid the same amount as the film is still developing and some scenes get added and some deleted.  Below the line costs are those separating the cast like the actors, director and the others from the crew members.

 Films can get marketed in different ways such as different advertisement will help get them sold. For example, TV adverts, radio or pop ups on the internet. The marketing budget is costly as it normally works around half of the whole production budget and the publicity is usually handled by either the distributor or exhibitors.  Film promotion can also help to market and sell films as it contribute towards pres release, merchandising, media ad interviews which include the actors within the film so more viewers are watching and will buy the film.
