Welcome to Mrs. Samara’s Fundamentals of Math I Class! Find your name & fill out the student info sheet on your desk

Fundamentals of Math 1 Take a Look at Your Syllabus Website:  rsamara.pbworks.com  Everything we do in class WILL be posted on PBWorks daily  Your responsibility to check when you’re absent

Classroom Procedures IN YOUR SEAT WHEN BELL RINGS  You should not be getting up in the middle of class unless you have an emergency. Calculators  I will assign a specific calculator to you. ONLY TAKE YOUR ASSIGNED CALCULATOR. Get this as soon as you walk in the door. If your calculator is not there, check another spot, or tell me immediately. A lost calculator will result in a $100 fine. Turning assignments in  You have a specific basket to turn work in, it is labeled with your period number.

Organization Staying organized is the key to success in this class! You will receive MANY papers throughout the year and you must have a system to keep up with them. Organizing your Binder:  By Unit, or  By Assignment Type  Keep a place/binder at home for old material

Unit 1 Trashketball and Rates

Let’s talk about rate! What kind of rate information do sports coaches use to make decisions about who plays? What kid of rate information do teachers use to see who understand the material from class? What kind of rate information do meteorologists use to predict weather? What other uses of rate information can you think of?

Trashketball! There are three courts: Court A: easy Court B: medium Court C: difficult

Trashketball Rules Team members rotate shots After you shoot, record your result Return to the end of the line for your next shot Team members will stay positive with their teammates and other teams

Recording a Shot Each time you take a shot, circle the number: When you make a basket, put a slash through the number!

When you are done. Write your rate on the board as well as the court you used (Court A, Court B, or Court C).

0 (0 shots) ½ (15 shots) 1 (30 shots)

Exit Ticket Using your classmates’ data, guess your rates for the two courts you didn’t use today. Write it next to the word “Prediction,” on your “Trashketball Stats #1” sheet. Tomorrow, you will play on those courts and see if your guesses were correct!
