Do you agree or disagree with the following statement… Many colonists were upset with the taxes Great Britain was making them pay. Please write three lines using examples to support your opinion. Share your ideas with a partner

Then in 1773, colonists dressed like Native Americans, boarded a British ship in Boston Harbor, and dumped all of the tea it was carrying into the water. This became known as the Boston Tea Party.

Many colonial leaders knew something had to be done, so representatives from 12 of the 13 colonies met in Philadelphia in 1774 to discuss what to do. This became known as the First Continental Congress.

The delegates argued over what they should do about the problems they were having with Britain and King George III.

Some delegates wanted to try to work out the problems they were having with Britain.

Others wanted to remove all of Parliament’s powers over the colonies.

Think back to when William Penn was naming the Pennsylvania colony. What did he and King Charles II do when they didn’t agree on the name?

The delegates decided on the following: -Stop trade with Britain. -Send a list of their concerns to the king. -Organize a militia. -Hold a second meeting if the king refused to make changes.
