 Draw a spider diagram identifying as many illegal substances as possible.  Label which class of drug (A, B or C) you think these are.

 To explore illegal substances  To examine some campaigns used to discourage substance misuse

 Can be dried leaves or a solid resin.  It is usually smoked but can also be eaten.  It makes users relaxed and talkative. Awareness of colours, tastes and music can become more intense  It can affect short term memory and the ability to concentrate  Users can feel anxious and afraid.  It is difficult to give up.

 Watch the clip  Read the article in small groups  Discuss in your group  Feedback to your class.  Write 5 sentences describing your opinion on this issue.

 Examine the picture. Describe what it means to you.  Heroin is a white powder when pure but is usually mixed with other substances giving it a brownish colour.

 Heroin is smoked, snorted or injected.  Small doses can lead to feelings of warmth. Higher doses can make the user feel drowsy and relaxed.  Heroin is very addictive. The user will need higher quantities to get the same fix.  The need for the fix can take over the users life, the drug is needed in order to feel normal.  Can cause dizziness and vomiting in the most extreme overdoses can cause death.

Can cause heart problems and chest pain.  Frequent use can lead to feelings of restlessness, confusion and fear.  Again overdoses can lead to death

 Can be grey or white powder or sometimes tablets.  A stimulant quickens the heart rate and breathing.  It can make users feel confident, alert and energetic.  Stimulants are often mixed with other substances.  Users may feel tired and depressed for some days after use  Can cause long term heart problems  Can lead to panic attacks and mental problems like Psychosis

 Usually tablets with letters or pictures on them.  Users will feel more alert and energetic  The heart rate increases rapidly and nausea and sweating are common  Can lead to depression, heart, kidney and liver problems.  In between 1996 and 2008 Ecstasy caused at least 200 deaths in the UK alone

 LSD comes on tiny squares of paper with a picture on it.  Magic mushrooms have the same effects as LSD.  Users experience a ‘trip’ or hallucinations.  You are unable to predict if the trip will be good or bad. A bad trip can be terrifying  Danger of accidents whilst hallucinating is increased.  Users often feel frightened and out of control  Flashbacks can lead to more long term problems
