What was Chelmsford like during World War 2? WW2 IN CHELMSFORD! What was Chelmsford like during World War 2?

THANKYOU FOR LISTENING!!!!

Bombing In Chelmsford. Chelmsford was targeted because of Hoffmanns Ball Bearings and Marconi’s Radio’s. Chelmsford was hit by over 100 bombs. Chelmsford was targeted because of Hoffmanns Ball Bearings and Marconi’s Radio waves.

Air Raids Because Chelmsford was such a massive target over 1000 people were left homeless and 50 were killed. Because of security more than 400 Military sites were installed .Also for protection SAS (Special Air Services) Used highlands estate as their Headquarters!

Defences in Chelmsford! Many people in 1940 bought Anderson Shelters for an Air Raid. They were installed in the garden , half Buried. Though the war was very dangerous after 2 years people stopped using them and converted them into garden sheds!! Hoffmanns created ball bearings that were inside spitfires. The English created spitfires to bomb germany, So that’s why Germany wanted to bomb Hoffmanns.

Playing a Part in WW2. Chelmsford played a massive part in ww2. We built spitfires Used to defend our country. We also used radio to alert London. It’s a shame though that many people forget that Chelmsford played a part. We must never forget.
