Creating and Sharing with SharePoint An introduction to SharePoint, with a hands on approach

Aims of this session SharePoint is specifically designed for sharing resources quickly and easily within an organisation. This session aims to show you how SharePoint does that, and the potential benefits of using this approach to sharing resources with staff and students.

By the end of the session you will Be confident in creating documents within OneDrive Be able to share documents in OneDrive with other members of the college Be able to add resources to a SharePoint Site Understand how to use newsfeed to draw attention to SharePoint content

What is SharePoint? Outlook ( ) Calendar People (address book) Newsfeed OneDrive Sites

OneDrive Personal document storage (like the N: drive) 25GB of space! Can create and edit files in a browser window No need to have office installed, so anyone can make and edit files Files can even be edited on a tablet!

Sites Central document storage (not personal) Access can be limited or completely open Wiki-like pages which can contain rich media content NOT fronter!

Newsfeed Social Media tool Great for sharing quickly, including rich media Users choose what to listen to A lot like twitter or facebook status updates

SharePoint SharePoint means all of these things together Everything is connected

Why use it? We already do Everyone has access all the time Flexibility

What are we doing today? OneDrive: – Creating folders and files – Opening and editing files – Uploading existing files (so you can empty your N: drive!) – Sharing files with other users (staff or students)

What are we doing today? Sites: – Adding resources – Editing a page – Including rich media in a page (images and videos) – Organising content

What are we doing today? Newsfeed: – Understanding “Following” and “Hashtags” – Sharing information effectively – Having an ongoing conversation in newsfeed – Sharing rich media
