PURPOSE AND CONTENT OF PRESENTATION To provide an Area based analysis to underpin the State of The District report and the draft Wellbeing Strategy Drawing on Agreed priorities – Vision for the Stour Public views – Best Value Satisfaction Survey 2006 Profile of Area – statistical base

AGREED PRIORITIES VISION FOR THE STOUR Our vision is that in 2020 the people of the Stour area enjoy an excellent quality of life, having ready access to a range of local services and facilities. Shipston is a vibrant market town at the focus of a rural area characterised by employment and housing opportunities for local people.

A THRIVING LOCAL ECONOMY Land and buildings already in employment use are retained and where appropriate adapted to ensure a supply of quality workspaces Market town and village shops thrive because the residents and businesses of the area increasingly choose to source products and services locally Set up and growth of new local enterprises is fostered by effective business support Skills of the local workforce are extended as a result of improved access to training and retraining opportunities. additional sites in both Shipston-on-Stour and local villages are developed to meet local employment needs Heritage of the Stour continues to be celebrated and accessible Young people leaving full time education are achieving higher levels of qualification as a result of the increased uptake of further education opportunities Quality of local visitor accommodation is first class.

A SOCIALLY COHESIVE COMMUNITY Enhanced community facilities provided and used by all age groups Residents supported to live independently for as long as they wish Range of health care services is extended and improved Crime levels and the fear of crime are reduced Flexible community transport so those without use of a vehicle can travel both within the Stour area and to nearby major centres/key public service facilities at times of their choice Residents pursue healthy lifestyles, including being physically active and choosing fresh local produce Residents choose to send their children to the local school, and so area continues to be served by its current range of schools Local decision making engages and reflects the varied interests and diverse groups that make up the communities of the Stour Affordable housing gives choice to local people Infrastructure exists to enable local information to be communicated and shared.

AN ATTRACTIVE AND HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT All new buildings constructed to meet high standards of environmental sustainability Agricultural activity enhances the quality of the countryside New development is small in scale and design respects and enhances local distinctiveness Local biodiversity action plan implemented Waste disposal reduced as individuals and businesses choose both to re-use and recycle. Attractiveness of the River Stour corridor upgraded Attractive appearance of streets and public spaces helps contribute to reduced fear of crime Environmental improvements carried out in the town centre of Shipston-on-Stour People choose to make short journeys either on foot or by cycling
