Information for 9 th Graders Student Advisement

Dual Enrollment provides opportunities for Georgia high school students to take courses from a state public or private postsecondary institution while still enrolled as a high school student and receive credit BOTH at the high school and at the postsecondary institution.

 For high school juniors and seniors.  … a non-need based program offered for students that wish to take college-level (academic-only, degree-level) coursework for credit toward both high school and college graduation requirements. (Only selected courses in English, Science, Social Studies and Foreign Language can be taken).  Students may attend part-time or full-time.  You MUST be on-course for graduating on time and be in good standing (passing all courses).  The college/program must accept you (you have to have SAT/ACT and GPA requirements).

 Earn high school credit AND technical college credit while taking a college level course.  Opportunity to fulfill your career pathway for high school AND earn a Technical Certificate of Credit  May even earn articulated technical college credit for some of your high school courses  Opportunity to graduate from high school with employable skill and certification

 Certification programs such as…  CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant)  Automotive  Cosmetology  Welding  Criminal Justice  Horticulture  Child Development  Interior Design  Design and Media Production Dawson CampusForsyth Campus

 You MUST be on-course for graduating from high school (passing all classes and in good standing) to be considered!  You must be accepted by the college or institution (i.e. you have the SAT/ACT scores, GPA, other admission requirements).  Must be a junior or senior.  Must meet with counselor before registration for the following school year in order to get process started.

 It provides high school students the opportunity to “jump start” postsecondary education during the high school years. It makes it easier to “move on” earlier to the next educational level.  It gives high school students an educational alternative other than the traditional high school setting or school day structure.  It provides students an option to earn postsecondary credit before graduating high school. Students who earn postsecondary credit while in high school, according to recent research, are more likely to graduate from college or university.  ACCEL Funded- Tuition is covered and it does NOT count against HOPE hours  Students can still participate in high school activities  Completes high school graduation requirements  Priority registration

 Schedule a time in early spring (before regular registration begins) to meet with your high school counselor to discuss the guidelines and responsibilities. Also, talk to your parents about it.  You must be entering 11th or 12th grade, as determined by the local system, and have spent the prior school year in attendance at a public high school in Georgia.  Complete application. Again, you must meet the admission requirements of the selected college/university/tech school.  Once accepted, students will need to complete the application form, meet the requirements as set by the eligible institution in addition to the GaDOE guidelines, and select approved courses to take at the college level that meet the high school graduation requirements.

 You will need to pass the SAT or ACT for ACCEL or MOWR  You will need to pass the ASSETT/COMPASS for Lanier Tech  Your counselor will discuss tuition, fees, materials, etc. with you.  JUST ASK!
