2 VISION: KOSOVO– Open and democratic society integrated in the European Higher Education Area, where knowledge and research are base for a sustainable cultural, social and economic development. MISSION: Development of an efective higher education system contributing to the welfare of the Kosovar society by offering a high quality education and research, with equal opportunities for all, in accordance to the values of liberty, democracy and diversity. 3 Steps towards the Bologna Process Quick start in academic year 2000/01 – Two-tier studies – Reduced duration years – Applying ECTS/Development of manuals – First Bologna graduates in 2004 What we missed? – A preparatory period – Quality assurance – Relevance of study programs to labor market need – Student participation

4 Steps towards the Bologna Process Higher Education Act – Promulgated in May 2003 – Preamble refers explicitely to the Bologna Process and to the Prague Conference – Followed by a number of bylaws operationalizing the Bologna principles – NQF in the parliamentary procedure New Statute of the University of Prishtina – Approved in July 2004 – Fully Bologna Compliant

6 The Bologna Promoters Team The National Bologna Promoters Team established in October 2005 The NBPT is currently implementing a Tempus project which aims to develop national Bologna policies The NBPT is participating in the Network of Bologna Promoters

Specific Objectives To support integration of Kosovo in the EHEA by assisting relevant stakeholders to develop appropriate higher education policies

Output 1 Capacity for developing policies for integration to the EHEA built Activities Study visits to EU partner countries Follow up capacity building seminar

Output 2 Policies for integration to the EHEA developed Activities Prepare a workplan on developing national policies Organize an international conference on policies for integration to the EHEA Develop policies on integration to the EHEA

Output 3 Relevant stakeholders in Kosovo have enough knowledge on the Bologna Process Activities Develop promotional materials on the Bologna Process Organize discussions/dissemination events on the Bologna Process Set up a national Bologna web page
