Be Ready! Be Respectful! Be Responsible! What are the rules in this classroom?

Special Guideline This classroom is a “No Whining Zone”. That means that there will be no whining, for ANY reason. Everything that I do is in your best interest, so please…respect the “No Whining Zone”.

Following Guidelines will result in: Verbal Acknowledgement A Stress free learning environment A pleasant and orderly classroom atmosphere Points added to your team

Mr. Kennedy’s Classroom Procedures

WHY DO WE HAVE PROCEDURES? A procedure is the way that we do things. –To do things right, we have to follow some simple procedures, for example: –To cook a delicious meal, you need to follow the steps in the recipe. –To place a call on your phone, you need to dial the number in the right order. So, to be successful in learning, you need to follow some simple procedures.

Entering the Room Please enter quietly Have a seat Take out your materials & Turn in Homework Review the agenda Begin bell work assignment

If the tardy bell rings before I get to class, I need to… Complete tardy excuse. Place the tardy excuse on Mr. Kennedy’s desk. After the 3 rd tardy, detention is assigned.

IF THE TEACHER RAISES HIS HAND Stop whatever you are doing at that moment. Stop whatever you are doing at that moment. Face the teacher and wait silently. Face the teacher and wait silently. Notify any classmates who haven’t noticed that the teacher has raised his hand. Notify any classmates who haven’t noticed that the teacher has raised his hand. No talking or whispering. All of your attention should be given to the teacher. No talking or whispering. All of your attention should be given to the teacher.

Listen to the teacher with full attention. Sit in a listening position. (Feet on floor, knees under desk, eyes on me, hands above desk, head up) No talking, whispering, or getting out of your seat. Raise your hand to ask or respond to a question or comment. Make sure you understand the concept being taught. Ask questions related to the subject. Other questions which are not related to the subject can be asked after instruction. DURING INSTRUCTION (My Time)

Make sure you read or listen to the directions about your work and understand them. If you didn’t understand, ask for help from one of your teammates sitting around you. If they also don’t understand, ask to the teacher to explain it. If you are asked to help, be polite and kind and offer your best. Talking to each other should be no louder than a 6-inch voice. The person sitting on the other side of the room should not be interrupted by your noise. Respect each other and be friendly. Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort to finish your work on time. WHILE YOU ARE WORKING (Your Time)

Group Work (Everybody’s Time) Walk to your designated area quietly. Use 6-inch voices while working. Do your assigned job for the group. Help group members as they need it. Group members will be separated for inappropriate behavior.

Check your work and the directions one more time to see if you missed anything or did something incorrectly. If the assignment is to be turned in, do so. Complete unfinished work in class folder. Start on Homework! NEXT… Things to do when I am done.

Each student will make sure their paper is headed properly (Name, Date, Subject, Block, Assignment) Students will give assignment to their co- captain. Co-captains will place assignment in appropriate place. If assignment is not complete, student will receive a Student Responsibility Card (Pink Slip). Handing in assignments (class work, homework, etc.)

Paper Heading Name Date Subject – Block # Page # 1.

Homework will be given 3 nights per week (unless I see a need for additional practice) Homework should be turned in before you start your bell-work. If you fail to complete homework, you will miss PE to complete the work for partial credit. Homework counts toward the 50% of your daily grade Note previous slide for handing in procedure. Homework

Moving around the room You must ask permission Do not ask during a classroom discussion unless it is an emergency

After an excused absence See Mr. Kennedy No make-up work for unexcused absences

Class Dismissal The teacher dismisses you, not the bell. Clean your work area and take all garbage to the trash can. Do not start packing up prior to the bell. Wait until the teacher finishes and officially dismisses you.

Something to Remember I truly believe in you and your success. It is up to You to make this year an enjoyable, learning experience. Looking forward to an awesome semester, Mr. Kennedy
