Parents are welcome to occasionally eat lunch with your child. Please remember to always sign in at the office upon arrival.

1st grade goes out most everyday unless too wet or below 35 degrees……Send those jackets for cold days…..

Harcourt Brace A very inviting math curriculum. All students are provided manipulatives to enhance their learning experience. We do daily guided practice together then a graded practice every other day. Georgia Common Core Frameworks Hands-on program in which children use manipulatives to understand and learn the Georgia Common Core math standards.

Harcourt Science Students will be learning about habits of mind, the nature of science, earth science, physical science, and life science.

McGraw Hill Students will be learning about American Heroes and their historical significance, geography, government/civic understanding, and economics.

Students begin getting ready to dismiss at 2:15 for bus riders & car riders.

Students are encouraged to read books at home and take tests at school in the mornings. As soon as they have taken a test they can return the book and check out another one. AR GOAL for this year is 20 points by the end of school. At this time in the year each child should have at least 4 points.

Homework comes from the Harcourt Reading program. This is High-Frequency word practice and spelling. Helping your child sound out words is always beneficial. We sound out by singing the sounds. You can ALWAYS do addition and subtraction flash cards. All students need help in this area. We need to get quick and fluent.

Students change their color when a negative consequence is needed. This is time off of their recess by walking laps. Hawk Bucks and classroom tickets are given to students when they are caught being good, on task, following directions, etc. I also use nickels to earn for good behavior in the classroom. Students that earn money for good behavior through the week can “buy” a special activity on Fridays as well or receive Hawk Bucks. Students will be going to the Hawk Buck Store every other week to cash in for prizes.

You can always communicate with me through the agenda. I look them over every day. You can always call or me if that is more convenient. My computer is on all day so I can see pretty quickly if you’ve ed me. You can always visit our class page by going to the Hill City website below, click class pages, then first grade, then Beth McClure.

Parents, if you have had the Volunteer training and would like to volunteer at school, please let me know. We always need help with Reading AR books and taking AR tests. Volunteer in our Classroom!

for taking the time to attend Curriculum Night! We have been working so hard so far this year. Your child is making progress every day. It is going to be a wonderful year filled with exciting learning activities! Mrs McClure Please visit our For weekly updates and pictures of our students!
