Klein ISD Counselors All Intermediate and High School Counselors can answer questions regarding the Foundation + Endorsement Graduation Plans.

Terminology HB 5 – House Bill 5, changed previous graduation plans beginning with current 10 th graders Advanced Courses – courses allowed for 2 nd, 3 rd and 4 th years in certain subject areas EOC – End of Course Exam Endorsements – pathways of study, similar to a college major DLA – Distinguished Level of Achievement

Plans must be signed by the student and parent/guardian at the end of the student’s ninth grade year.

FAQ 1. Can a student earn more than one endorsement? YES! In fact many will likely earn at least two endorsements 2. What kind or how many endorsements should students have for college admissions? College admissions pages, courses (4X4)

Sample Students Student A Background: Is taking a “4X4” type of curriculum Is in band Began Algebra 1 in Intermediate School and will take two math courses after Algebra 2. Plans to take dual credit courses in his junior and senior year Took a fifth credit of social studies How many endorsements?

Sample Student - Answer Student A Background: Is taking a “4X4” type of curriculum Multidisciplinary Endorsement Is in band Band 1, 2, 3,4 will earn an Arts and Humanities Music Endorsement Began Algebra 1 in Intermediate School and will take two math courses after Algebra 2. Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Cal and Advance Math earns STEM Plans to AP courses throughout high school World History AP, English 3 AP, Physics AP 1, Statistics AP earns Multidisciplinary Advanced Took an additional credit of social studies World Geo, World History, US History, Govt/Eco, 5 th Social Studies credit How many endorsements? At least five, possibly more dependent upon electives

Sample Students Student B would like to earn an Arts and Humanities Music Endorsement and STEM in Math, is this possible?

Sample Student - Answer Most likely yes. Their Endorsement pathway would be 4 years of their selected music course, for example Orchestra. STEM Math requires two courses above the level of Algebra 2. 8 th Grade – Algebra 1 9 th Grade – Geometry 10 th Grade – Algebra 2 11 th Grade – Advanced Math (Pre-Cal?) 12 th Grade – Advanced Math (Stastics AP, Calculus AP)

SAMPLE STUDENT Student C is taking a general curriculum and has several interest. She is interested in Health Sciences and she is a member of JROTC. What might her endorsements be and what does her four year plan look like?

SAMPLE STUDENT This study can earn at least three endorsements. Multidisciplinary – if they take 4 Social Studies JROTC Public Service – Health Science Nursing

Can a student participate in Fine Arts and Athletics? Generally yes.
