2 Welcome! The purpose of this presentation is to prepare students and parents for their freshman conference. During the conference we will discuss your: Academic goals for this year Transition to high school 4-year plan Students and parents are strongly encouraged to come prepared with questions for their counselor.

5 Distinguished Level of Achievement (DLA)
A Distinguished Level of Achievement (DLA) may be earned through successful completion of: All requirements for the Foundation High School Program, plus The requirements of at least one endorsement, including Algebra II among the four required math credits A student must graduate with a Distinguished Level of Achievement (DLA) to be considered for the Top 10% and eligibility for automatic admission to a Texas public college or university.

Similar to a college major Endorsement pathways are typically a sequence of courses for 4 credits Can focus on Academics, Fine Arts, JROTC, or Career and Technical Education

9 Course Requirements: Endorsements
FBISD students declare their endorsement in Skyward Student Access during course selection. Students will have the opportunity to change their endorsement. The endorsement, and any changes, must be indicated in writing and signed by the parent. This can be done electronically through Family Access.

10 Electives If a class is in addition to what is required, it is considered an elective. Many electives will satisfy an Endorsement with a coherent sequence of courses. Ex. Additional World Language, Math, or Science

11 Career Plan (4-yr plan) Be sure to review your Career Plan in Skyward
Students will update Career Plans during course selection each year

12 100 Point GPA Scale Example: Physics (on level) 86 = 86 points
English III AP 94 = 104 points US History Dual Credit 84 = 89 points Athletics 100 = 100 points Choir 100 = 100 points PreCal PreAP 86 = 91 points Journalism 94 = 94 points Total Points = 664 points divided by 7 = GPA Advanced Placement (AP)/Beyond AP Courses PreAP, Honors, Dual Credit Courses On Level Courses Receives 10 point weight 5 point weight Non-weighted

13 Testing Requirements Students must pass the following assessments in order to graduate: 5 End-of-Course (EOC) Exams Algebra I Biology English I English II U.S. History

14 Alternative Credit Options
FBISD Evening School or Summer School Online: Texas Virtual School Network, UT High School or TTU K-12 Credit by Exam (CBE) You must see your Counselor for approval BEFORE signing up for any courses outside of Fort Bend ISD.
